Wanted Wednesday: October 12, 1996
Please rise, for the singing of our national anthem...
Today takes us back to 1996 and an acoustic set from Jon and Richie at the Warner Theater in Washington DC. VH1 was filming that year's LifeBeat event and folks with cheap seats tickets were invited down to the floor level so the house would look full on camera. Wouldn't THAT have been a time to have decent cheap seats?
The guys opened the event with a three-song set (Wanted, Prayer, Bridge Over Troubled Waters)
This is such a pretty song when it's just the two guitars and the two voices. I love hearing it like this.
Richie takes the second verse (sigh) lending his bluesy vocals to the track. That just about makes up for the abbreviated version of the song for TV (no solo). Very cool performance. (The other two songs are worth a listen too, especially Bridge. Just beautiful.)
