Celluloid Heroes
Ray Davies' "See My Friends" hits the US next March (you can pre-order here). However, it was released in the UK on November 8th, and is available for purchase now.
Celluloid Heroes is the track on this record to which Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora loaned their talent. Not everyone was impressed. Philip Cosores at Consequence of Sound had this to say:
Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora strip the sentiment from the sentimental “Celluloid Heroes”, playing Los Angeles like Brandon Flowers’ plays Las Vegas on his new album. 70’s soft rock ballads are tricky becuase they were only acceptable in the 70’s, and the Bon Jovi-updating should have been predictable in its soulless execution.Michael Hann at The Guardian liked the record with one notable exception:
The only outright failure is Celluloid Heroes, turned into a power ballad by Jon Bon Jovi, with a squealing guitar solo from Richie Sambora.Yikes. I didn't think it was that bad at all. But what do I know? I enjoyed it, but I like the song anyway.
Give it a listen -- what do you think?

Critics are like eunuchs in a harem - they see it done every night, they can tell you how they think it should be done, they often say it's being done wrongly, but they can't do it themselves.
Ergo - I downloaded the track, I like it. It also brings back memories of seeing the guys perform on stage with Ray Davies - amazing moment.
