Bon Jovi Quits Smoking To Save Money
This made me laugh. I mean good for him for making the healthier choice, but I have to wonder; does the inflated premium REALLY make much of a difference to his bottom line? I think not.
Rocker JON BON JOVI has given up cigarettes - because he refuses to pay the huge insurance premiums needed to cover a smoker.I found this here (though the version on CM has the swear words censored). I love ContactMusic; they have some pretty funny stuff on their site every now and again...
The Livin' On A Prayer hitmaker picked up the habit while filming 1994 movie Moonlight and Valentino, but finally decided to turn his back on tobacco after trying to buy life insurance - and realising he was paying over-the-odds due to his love of cigarettes.
He tells Q magazine, "I swore off them before the tour and I'm happy to say that I haven't picked them up again.
"(I quit because of) the cold hard truth. I tried to get life insurance and the price with smoking was so ridiculous it was enough to piss you off and just throw them in the garbage. So it was cold fucking turkey."

LOL! My father-in-law quit years ago for basically the same reason. He saw a 60 Minutes piece on tobacco companies and their additives to cigs to ramp up the addictiveness of the nicotine. It pissed him off so much he threw his pack in the trash and never looked back. Sadly the damage was already done--he died of throat cancer a few years ago.
Bet Jon was a barrel of monkeys to be around the first few Cold Turkey weeks *wince*.
Way to go Jonny -- we wanna have you around for a loooooonnng time. Though you do look insanely hot in the WWWB Doc, puffing on that cig while you talk on the cell... *groan*
And Jeez, can you IMAGINE what his life insurance policy must cost??? ACK.
oh God .. we think he's grumpy on a regular day .. imagine HRH on nicotine withdrawals! *shudders*
it's about time he quit!! wish richie would too!!! his reasoning is stupid but it will help save his voice for those of us who love it!!!
Don't really care what his reasons, I'm just thrilled that he's quit. I have a personal hatred for cigs, beyond also knowing how terrible they are health-wise, so anyone who quits gets props from me.
I second Catte's comment! I don't want to know what his life insurance must cost. Yikes!

First, let me say that I'm glad he quit - for his health if nothing else, but....am I the only one questioning why he needs life insurance? Most people do that to make sure their families are taken care of if something happens to them...hasn't he got enough now? I don't begrudge him making lots of money, and I hope he continues for many years...just don't understand the need.
No matter what his reasons are, that's a great thing! Way to go Jonny! Like Catte Sambora said, we want you around for a loooong time. :)
I might sound stupid, but this has just brightened my day :D
By the way, Lora, I am not familiar with the information of Richie smoking...???
As far as I know, he is the only one in BJ who had never done it (as in habit).
Correct me if I'm wrong...
Oh, and personally, I don't think he knows how to hold a cigarette correctly (giggle). At least that's what those rare promo pics say.
WAY TO GO JON!!!!!!
So happy to hear he quit!
And if he needs help finding a way to relax or needs a distraction from a nicotine craving... I'm sure there is a willing pool of female fans who will offer help!!! ;)
OMG! Just two weeks ago I wrote a chapter about Jon quiting smoking in my story!!...though his reason is different.....Get out of my head, whoever is in there!!!!!!!
Cost of my medical insurance if I was a smoker 95.00 a pay check...My medial insurance being a non smoker 54.00 a pay check. Granted I only get paid Twice a month...on a odd chance we get three pay checks during a month...sheesh if I smoked I would pay 285.00 out of my paycheck just for medical insurance and I live in the Tobacco Road state!
But very glad he quit...Lost my mom to complications due to chemo treatments for Lung Cancer. Both parents smoked all my life...Lost both to Cancer...I have lung problems and never smoked.
Great Job Hotness...And Oh yes I agree with Catt...my Mom was a witch without a broom when she had to quit before Chemo.
Now watch him gain weight from not smoking. My mom gained 30 pounds in a month!
