Wanted Wednesday: 1998 Mayfair (Richie)
Please rise, for the singing of our national anthem...
This is another Richie version, from a show he did at Mayfair. It has the Midnight Rider opener (swoon), and he's just in a playful, joking mood (though really, is he every super-cranky?)
He's cracking wise for the first couple of minutes. My favorite?
We'll fake it, but you'll enjoy it, I promise.
This is an acoustic version, which ALWAYS makes me smile. The audience participation is a bit loud at times, but it's not bad at all.
I think I've said this before -- Richie's voice has the perfect bluesy sound for this song acoustic. Yes, yes, the "band" version, and Jon's versions are superlative too (which is why I'm featuring this song every week, by the way) but there's something about the lower octaves of Richie's voice that just make me shiver (in a good way).
Give it a listen.
Let's ride!
