Thanks Kiwi for this -- I hadn't seen it before, though like Catte, I did recall Richie talking about this in the VH-1 Storytellers from 2000.  He talks about filming a commercial in Japan, standing knee-deep in black water, and while he and Jon were shooting the -- er -- breeze, they came up with the idea for Bad Medicine.  Richie was telling Jon about some "crazy chick" he was seeing, and Jon commented that Richie's love life was good inspiration for writing :)
