...what the h****. I honestly don´t understand.....*sigh*
Looks Like I'll be boycotting the Hall again!!!! OMG! Really? Don't they deserve to be in the Hall? Geez! *Slaps Desk and Curses* Damn Them!
It's not our guys' fault though!
If the beastie boys, GNR, or Red Hot Chili Peppers get in I am going to be pissed. I thought for sure that since they were on the list last year that that would mean that they will pretty much be on the list from now on. What did they do last year that they didn't do this year that warranted them a spot on the list?
Ugh! These people are insane. I agree with Anonymous...if Beastie Boys, GNR or Red Hot Chili Peppers get in...I also thought the same that they would be on the list. Crazy!
Prepare to be pissed then, cause I'm sure those 3 will get in. They have plenty of critical acclaim, although it took RHCP some 7 years before finally breaking out.
And Goddess, what I'm surprised about is that BJ fans keep being surprised about it. You can't possibly be a fan of this band that long and not feel the sting by now?
For those overseas it's a bit less obvious but nor NA residents, they've been black sheep for 30 years now. Especially Jon. Pit him against ANY dumb r'n'r Frontman (even those who don't even write lyrics let alone all that Jon can do) and he'd lose embarrassingly, in the hands of typical rock fans.
I think even Bon Jovi members aren't that oblivious anymore, at least.
And no, if you're on the list once it doesn't mean you will be again. I think the nom last year was more an exception than anything, and I'd like to know who nominated them, and hope for their sake it was anonymous.
I've been reading music magazines for 10 years before I finally realized that, as a music fan myself, if I read a paragraph more of their obviously slanted, painfully biased, broken-record bullshit, same 10 sentences rehashed over and over, I'd start HATING music itself.
I never post (on any site), so I hope this comment isn’t too lengthy for your standards. But the RRHOF frustrates me to no end, not just regarding Bon Jovi, but with many of their decisions. So you’re pulling me out of “lurker-dom.”
I’m not surprised that Bon Jovi isn’t on the list this year. For one, despite the “criteria” that guides the selection (as cited by the RRHOF), a review of the previous nominees and inductees reveals little, if any, rhyme or reason in their selections. Secondly, the selection process is political in the extreme, rivaling even the tightest Good Ole Boys network and, I suspect, involves highly sensitive egos to boot.
I appreciate and applaud (and actually kinda miss!) Richie’s inclination to say whatever is on his mind in interviews; but I have to admit that my sphincter crawled all the way up my behind when I read his response to their 2011 snub (on Billboard.com, no less; one of the few sites the RRHOF Powers-That-Be might actually see!):
"I think it's a boys club over there," [Sambora] said. "I don't know what they're doing, [if] they're looking for ratings or what they're doing. Is it legitimate? That's my question. Our legitimacy comes from our fans; you sell 125 million records and have the two biggest tours in the last three years, I'll take that. If I would complain, nobody would listen."
It may not have been the best comment for winning friends and influencing people, especially the super-egos with the final word on the Hall of Fame. My first thought when I read Richie’s frank response was “Uh-oh! Somebody’s in for a spanking.” And it sucks, especially when Richie seems to have been a good friend to the Hall of Fame (the museum, not the bastards) over the years.
So, am I surprised? Nope. Beyond pissed off? You bet! But I think the slight is more indicative of small minds among the selectors than it is of any failure on the part of the band to meet the hall’s criteria. As a previous poster implied, they were viable nominees last year, but not this year? That makes no sense. I can only hope that if this is their way of chastising an artist for being honest enough to respond truthfully to a disappointing decision and for not kowtowing to the Powers-That-Be (who apparently don’t deal well with being recognized as the “boys club” they are), it will only be a one-year slap on the wrist.
When all is said and done, it’s like Richie said. Bon Jovi’s legitimacy comes from the fans. While I think Bon Jovi deserves the honor of being inducted, their selection really won’t make a difference one way or the other in the way they are viewed by their fans (or, unfortunately, sometimes by the critics). Bottom line: the boys can toss a good ol’ NJ “Have a Nice (m-f*kg) Day, (a**holes)” to the RRHOF and just keep laughing all the way to the bank, delighting 130,000,000 fans along the way.
They have never been contenders in terms of acclaim. Why would Richie's statement-- probably made out of finally giving up asskissing because he realized it has never helped-- get a 'spanking' NOW?
It's not like they were praised for a while and then Richie goofed up.
It's that they were never even rated, and Richie gave up.
The more important questions to me are: What more could they do to 'win friends'? Do they even want these friends? What have they done before that was so vile that they have been shunted for life? How does their career trajectory fit into the Rock music industry?
For gods sake, Selena Gomez's album has a higher rating on Allmusic than half of what Bon Jovi have done. Is that reasonable? Has it ever been reasonable?
I'd rather BJ didn't think about this because the fact that I do drives me nuts. And I don't care specifically for them to be the best, greatest, anything. It's just that a little bit goes a long way. Jon has claimed getting bashed makes them work harder. But I don't really believe that. Some encouragement always helps an artist be better, and the utter lack of encouragement has negatively affected BJ's music. For example, there is a huge difference between These Days and Crush. The utter lack of praise, even mention, for what was quite an incredible feat (These Days) during the height of a hostile new music fad, has resulted in Crush, which is what I saw as giving up and turning an art into just a money making job. That hasn't changed over the decade, and neither has their acclaim.
The Guns n Roses shtick will make me hurl in January. Who is gonna show up when they get inducted? Will Axl be fashionably late or throw a fancy fit, as it is "cool" in "rocknroll" to do? Will they all kiss and make up and be reuniteeed? Barf. I sometimes really feel for Jon and his exasperation.
