Worst Songs of the 2000's
I don't know how valid a poll from Gigwise is, but I found this funny.
They ranked It's My Life as the 43rd-worst song of the decade. Their comments:
Bon Jovi: 'It's My Life' (2000) - Jon Bon Jovi, he of sparkling teeth and perfectly blow dried hair, blasts through this rabble rousing ode to life. Musically vacuous, the lyrics too are so woefully empty it's actually a struggle to highlight a low point.
This, of course, begs a couple of questions.
First, what do you think the worst song of the decade is?
Second, what do you think the worst Bon Jovi song is?
For me, the first question is tough. Mostly because I listen to iPod or XM/Sirius radio all the time. I gave up on commercial radio years ago.
For the second, aside from the whole 7800 Fahrenheit album, I have to ALWAYS skip Homebound Train. The stupid train whistle noises Jon makes has me cringing in embarassment for them.
How 'bout you?
What tops your worst list?

I always love these convos because what is someone's least favorite always ends up being someone's favorite ... LOL.
I like Homebound Train but can't STAND "Thief of Hearts" (even having heard it live) and the overly-whiny-just-shoot-me-now "Seat Next to You."
WPLJ is having this "cash for clunkers" song thing and I must say some of the songs they've chosen I REALLY liked (i.e. "We Built This City" by Starship and "Far From Over" by Frank Stallone...though I DID agree with them on "Don't Worry Be Happy" ... frickin' annoying song!!)
I always disliked Social Disease because when I was 11 back in 86-87 I knew if my parents heard the intro the tape was going to go away, so I actually planned to turn the volume down at the end of Prayer, and waited I think 15 seconds and then it went right to the horns.
I also cannot stand Thank You for Loving Me, when I heard Jon say this is going to be a big hit, I choked on what I was drinking at the time.
I think a lot of their ballads on the last few albums I haven't liked its like they're trying to hard to write a hit vs writing a good song.
Like you Hath, I haven't listened to the radio in a long time. It never fails, there is always one song on every BJ album that I can't stand. Never 2, never 0, always one. Social disease, wildflower, homebound train just to name a few...
Okay - I have 2 nominees for worst song overall: The Macarena and that weird Mambo #5 song. Either one makes me wanna ram a sharp stick through my eardrums so I can stop the torture...
As for worst Jovi song, I think I have to agree with you, Hath - "Homebound Train" Though I don't always skip over it 'cause I love the hard guitar riffs Richie lays down. But I actually cringe when Jonny yells out those "Whoo Whoos". Gawd, I'm embarassed for him, even when I'm the only one who can hear it in my car or in my earbuds!
My other least fave would probably have to be "If I Was Your Mother." Again, great hard guitar riffs so I don't always skip it, but the lyrics just creep me out. I don't EVER wanna think about Jonny (or any other man, for that matter) wishing he was my mother, so he could get closer to me. Eeeeewwwwww! Particularly creepy: "If I was your mother/
Could I teach you what's right/
Could I tell you stories, maybe tuck you in and kiss you sweet goodnight?" OH ICK!!! Blech! *shudder* Now I feel like I need a shower...
Also in the Weak-Ass Jovi song Hall of Fame: "King of the Mountain" and "I Don't Wanna Fall to the Fire". So cheezy they just make me laugh out loud. But they were from 7800F, so you kinda expect that (tho' there are some songs I LOVE from that album)
P.S. - Hey BAJG: I love Frank Stallone's "Far From Over" too! SOO doesn't deserve to be called a "clunker!" :)
Worst Bon Jovi song: She's a Mystery or Save the World.
Worst song of the decade: maybe Sk8er Boi by Avril Lavigne. But the worst political song of the decade goes to Dear Mr President by Pink. :P
Can't pick the worst song of the decade...there haven't been that many good ones!
As for Jovi songs...I love Thief of Hearts,Social Disease, Mother and Thank You ! LOL
I'm with you on the whole 7800 album - the weakest by far IMO,...aside from that...not a fan of Wildflower or I Love This Town
My least favorite BJ song, in fact I hate it...is Bed of Roses. I'm sorry I know a lot of people love it but it's too sappy for me.
