Rockin' in Rio
According to the official Rock in Rio 2013 webpage, Bon Jovi will be playing Rock in Rio this year... actually IN Rio. Yes, as in Brazil. According to the press release: (thanks Google Translator)
Milestone in the history of the world Rock, Bon Jovi is the new confirmed at Rock in Rio 2013. The band will close the evening of September 20 with the concert tour "Because We Can BON JOVI - The Tour". This will be the third group participation on a Rock in Rio, but the first edition in Brazil.
Bon Jovi has played Rock in Rio on the past two tours, but not actually in Rio de Janeiro. Their 2008 Lost Highway Rock in Rio performance took place in Lisbon, Portugal, and the 2010 Circle Tour performance was in Madrid, Spain. (How many Rock in Rios are there, anyway?)
The press release says this is the "first edition" of Rock in Rio in Brazil. But what about that lovely and legendary recording of "Rock in Rio" from 1990? Well, this YouTuber cleared up that very confusing issue. Apparently the 1990 Rio Festival was officially called "Hollywood Rock Festival." NOT "Rock in Rio."
It's all very confusing. Or perhaps I'm just hypnotized by JBJ's pants.
Wanna go? Tickets go on sale in exactly one month:
A new stage of this story will be written with the Brazilian fan at Rock in Rio 2013. If you have not secured your place in the pre-sale, stay tuned: tickets go on sale April 04.
With any luck JBJ will wear those awesome technicolor pants again.

This is actually the 5th edition of Rock in Rio in its hometown. There has been other editions of the festival in Lisbon and Madrid. This is their first time playing in the festival in its Rio edition. The festival they played in 1990 was called "Hollywood Rock", named after a cigarette brand, and extinct after a law was passed by the Senate of Brazil prohibiting tobacco and alcohol companies from sponsoring cultural and sporting events. So, they are 2 different events. I hope I helped clearing up the confusion a bit, lol :)
