In 1986 glam rock was at a pop culture high. There was not a better time to release Bon Jovi's third album, 'Slippery When Wet'. The first single "You Give Love A Bad Name" went to #1 on the Billboard charts. Now when I watch the video, Jon Bon Jovi throwing his guitar into the audience reminds me of Huey Lewis in the karaoke movie Duets: "I can't go back, I'm a singer now!" It was the moment where you could feel that this was the start of something special for the band (and lead singer). The next single, "Livin' On A Prayer" also went to #1. The video focused on Jon Bon Jovi's ass and the fun loving band (many 'blooper' shots are shown). It always appeared there was a jeans rivalry between Jon and Def Leppard lead singer Joe Elliot (Elliot preferring more holes versus the faded wash worn by Jon). As was the format, they had to follow up their 'rocking' hits with a ballad. They released "Wanted Dead Or Alive", a top 10 hit that still holds up better than most ballads during this period. One question on the video: Do I understand correctly that according to Jon Bon Jovi it's really exhausting to travel by private jets and limos? The collection of these three videos increased acid washed denim by 40 percent (this is an approximate estimation based on the number of video ass shots).

Richie on Extra
Bon Jovi rocker Richie Sambora stopped by The Grove to chat with "Extra's" Mario Lopez after his recent return from the band's record-breaking world tour. Sambora, happy to still be on top after three decades with Bon Jovi, said, "I walked onstage every night with extreme gratitude."

Going solo on Friday, Richie plans to take part in a special military show, and will give away 10 Voyage Air acoustic guitars to 10 marine heroes. "Me touring fifty countries... I get what it means to have American freedom, and these guys are fighting for our freedom, so it's my little way to give back."

Richie on Ava's Acting Career
From AccessHollywood:
You can read the rest of the brief article here.

“I let her do that and now, actually, she’s becoming an actress and she just got a movie,” Richie told Kit Hoover on Wednesday’s Access Hollywood Live, referring to his daughter’s upcoming part in Judd Apatow’s “This Is Forty,” a spin-off of “Knocked Up.”
“She’s very passionate about it,” Richie added of Ava, his daughter with ex-wife Heather Locklear, and her acting career plans.
While the 13-year-old is ready to kick-start her career, her father, naturally, has some reservations.
“There’s some trepidation as far as me being a little scared about it, but I’m happy for her and she’s really happy and she’s going right into it, man,” he said.

Sweet Vally High...the Musical?
Playbill and Off Off Broadway World are both (in a sideways manner) posting information about a new musical featuring music/lyrics from our favorite Tony Award Winner. As part of a bio listing of producer John Znidarsic, both websites are saying that:
According to a Forever Young Adult post earlier this year, which is totally tongue-in-cheek with respect to SVH, there is a "demo" CD of a few songs from this project. I make no promises that these songs are legit, but they are kinda fun...
1 – Forever Lives in Us
2 – The First Time
3 - My Piece of Heaven
4 - Ain't No Second Chance
5 - Private World
As for the musical itself, you may recall David talking about it in the "From Netherworld to Memphis" interview from last year with Brian Reesman:
The question remains as to whether the published info in the bio of Mr. Znidarsic in these recent articles are inclusive of "old information" with respect to Sweet Valley High. I have no idea. My Google Alerts hasn't told me yet.

...recent and upcoming projects include a new musical Fast Breaks - The Comings and Goings at Sweet Valley High by Francine Pascal and David Bryan of Bon Jovi...I think this musical has been "in the works" since early last decade (thought that may not mean anything) and I can't seem to find anything recent about the SVH vehicle.

As for the musical itself, you may recall David talking about it in the "From Netherworld to Memphis" interview from last year with Brian Reesman:
Then finally he said, “What about musicals?” I said, “What are those?” He said, “I can get you 20 songs covered eight times a week.” “I’m interested.” At the time he put me together with Frank Military. John Teeter was the publisher and Frank Military was an old Broadway guy who knew Sinatra and knew everybody because he was 80 years old at the time. He knew Francine Pascal, who was Michael Stewart’s sister, and Michael Stewart wrote Bye-Bye Birdie and Mack & Mabel. He was huge. He was also in Sid Ceasar’s Show Of Shows. He had passed away, and Francine had his whole world. She had a book series called Sweet Valley High that sold about 500,000,000 copies in 20 years around the world. She knew Michael Price at Goodspeed [Opera House] up in Connecticut, and there was no rock ‘n roll at the time on Broadway in ’98. I wrote all the music and lyrics about this character who went from point A to point B, and used in my mind what was a hit chorus. I did that [the basic rock formula] for 23 songs for that. We got to a certain point where we had done a reading and they put about $30,000 into it. Everybody’s opinion was, “It’s loud. It’s too loud. Why do the songs repeat like that?” “It’s not too loud, and it’s rock ‘n roll. That’s what a rock song does — it takes your emotions and is a simpler form than classical, but it is a highly complicated form of emotion.” So I got to certain point and then it stopped, and I sat around. The idea of "rock-n-roll on Broadway" isn't so far-fetched anymore. Maybe a restoration of this project is in order!
The question remains as to whether the published info in the bio of Mr. Znidarsic in these recent articles are inclusive of "old information" with respect to Sweet Valley High. I have no idea. My Google Alerts hasn't told me yet.

Please rise, for the singing of our national anthem...
This week we've got a track from Leipzig for your enjoyment.
Do you suppose there's ever hecklers in the crowd? When Jon says the song's for all the cowboys in the house is there that one guy looking around for the ten gallon hats? 'Cause if Jon's looking for an arsehole for that role, I know a guy.
Anyway :)
Jon keeps most of the lyrics on this version (you know the line Richie takes), but our Richie's harmonies are beautiful throughout and the solo nice and perfect. As expected.
Let's Ride!
And here it is on my Mediafire.
