What Do You Got? (II)

You can download the version from BonJovi.com here.  It doesn't have all the PLJ yapping that the earlier download I listed had.

Thanks to Lisa and LeeAnn for listing out the lyrics:
Everybody wants something, just a little more
We're makin' a living and what we're living for
Rich man or a poor man, a pawn or a king
You can live on the street, you can rule the whole world
But it don't mean one damn thing

What do you got if you ain't got love?
Whatever you got, it just ain't enough
You're walkin' a road but you're goin' nowhere
Tryin' to find your way home but there's no one there
Who do you hold in the dark of night?
You wanna give up but it's worth the fight
You can have all the things that you've been dreaming of

If you ain't got someone you're afraid to lose
Everybody needs just one someone to tell them the truth
Maybe I'm a dreamer but I still believe
I believe in hope, I believe that change can get us up off our knees

What do you got if you ain't got love?
Whatever you got just ain't enough
You're walkin' a road but you're goin' nowhere
Tryin' to find your way home but there's no one there
Who do you hold in the dark of night?
You wanna give up but it's worth the fight
You can have all the things that you've been dreaming of
If you ain't got love, it's all just keepin' score
If you ain't got love, what the hell we doin' it for?

I don't wanna have to talk about it
How many songs I gotta sing about it?
How long you gonna live without it?
Why does someone somewhere have to doubt it?
Someday you'll figure it out

What do you got if you ain't got love?
Whatever you got, it just ain't enough
You walk on that road but you're goin' nowhere
Tryin' to find your way home but there's no one there
Who do you hold in the dark of night?
You wanna give up but it's worth the fight
You can have all the things that you've been dreaming of
If you ain't got love, it's all just keepin' score
If you ain't got love, what the hell we doin' it for?

(Whoa oh oh oh) Ohh, what do you got if you ain't got love?
(Whoa oh oh oh) Ohh, what do you got if you ain't got love?
(Whoa oh oh oh) Ohh, what do you got if you ain't got love?
(Whoa oh oh oh)

I've given it a bunch more listens, and I have to say, I like it. It does sound a bit over-produced, but the vocals are perfect (as per usual). The solo could have been a bit more "spectacular", but it's got a nice chorus, a good solid intro -- I like it.

What Do You Got?

Scott & Todd did in fact premier the new Bon Jovi single this morning. It should be up on BonJovi.com soon (if it isn't already) but if you don't want to go over there, you can grab it here.

I liked it (not that it matters). Convo so far has it sounding like an American Idol "winner's song", and like a Circle throwaway.

What do you think?

Dear Bon Jovi Management...

... with the press release for the Greatest Hits "packages" still fresh in our email inboxes, I wanted to point your attention to another new press release -- for another Jersey boy -- for another package.  Rolling Stone is reporting this:

After years of rumors, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have announced the details of their Darkness On The Edge of Town box set, which will be released on November 16.

Numerous songs on the 3 CD/3 DVD package don't appear to have been heard anywhere, even on bootleg, including "Someday (We'll Be Together)," "The Brokenhearted," "Save My Love," "Ain't Good Enough For You," "It's A Shame," and "The Little Things (My Baby Does)."

The set includes:
  • CD 1: REMASTERED 'DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN'
  • CD 2: THE PROMISE (DISC 1)
  • CD 3: THE PROMISE (DISC 2)
  • DVD 1: "THE PROMISE: THE MAKING OF 'DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN'"
  • DVD 2: DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN (PARAMOUNT THEATER, ASBURY PARK, NJ,2009)
  • DVD 3: HOUSTON '78 BOOTLEG: HOUSE CUT

Columbia Records will release Bruce Springsteen's 'The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story' on Nov 16. The Deluxe Package comprises over six hours of film and more than two hours of audio across 3 CDs and 3 DVDs. The media contents are packaged within an 80-page notebook containing facsimiles from Springsteen's original notebooks from the recording sessions, which include alternate lyrics, song ideas, recording details, and personal notes in addition to a new essay by Springsteen and never-before-seen photographs.

Um, holy CRAP! That is a package and a half.

Are you taking notes, BJM?

New Bon Jovi Single Premiers August 27

According to a tweet from PLJ's Scott & Todd, they will be premiering the new Bon Jovi single tomorrow, August 27, at 7:45am EDT.  Those of you in the area can listen on 95.5FM; the rest of us can listen at PLJ.COM.

Really looking forward to hearing this.  If all my technology is working properly, I'll have it streamed for you.  If not, I'm sure one of my devotees will get it to me, and I in turn will post it for you.

Greatest Hits

OK, so I have friends Backtage. Not literally, but with BSWJBJ. A HUGE announcement on Backstage today, but I've been asked to share it with you (not by anyone official, but still)...

Greatest Hits Info

(Aug. 26, 2010 – New York, NY) World-renowned music icons Bon Jovi are releasing a career-spanning greatest hits compilation November 9th on Island Records. Bon Jovi GREATEST HITS will transport listeners back in time through Bon Jovi’s worldwide monster hits of the past and offer a bridge to the future with the debut of four brand new tracks.

“Music marks milestones in all our lives,” notes front man Jon Bon Jovi. “These songs have stood the test of time and they remind us all where we came from, even as we keep our eyes towards the future.”

Bon Jovi GREATEST HITS will be a 16-song single disc chock full of the band’s biggest chart-toppers including “Livin’ On A Prayer,” “Always,” “It’s My Life,” “Wanted Dead or Alive,” and “Who Says You Can’t Go Home.” Two new songs, including lead single “What Do You Got,” round out the track listing. “What Do You Got?” will hit radio airwaves globally at the end of August.

Bon Jovi GREATEST HITS - THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION will be a 28-song two disc edition made up of the GREATEST HITS CD from the standard edition and a second disc featuring beloved fan favorites including “Bed of Roses,” “Blood on Blood,” “These Days,” and “Keep The Faith” plus the third and fourth new tracks created for this project.

The four new songs (“The More Things Change,” “No Apologies,” “This Is Love, This Is Life” and the first single, “What Do You Got?”) were written specifically for inclusion in this compilation.

The complete track listings for Bon Jovi GREATEST HITS and Bon Jovi GREATEST HITS - THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION will be unveiled exclusively at www.bonjovi.com.

There was the news, here's the commentary.

First, I thought there were five new songs? "This Is Our House" was filmed for a video, wasn't it? Though there is some speculation that the reason they filmed live performance in Toronto is that the NFL will be using it as a theme song for commercials, game promos etc, kinda like MLB did with I Love This Town. I for one wouldn't mind if that particular rumor was true. The song lends itself to sports teams more than radio airplay, IMO.  Besides, I already get to hear the song “live” when my Beloved New England Patriots score touchdowns. If this rumor is true, I can also hear it when I watch the games on TV, and that will absolutely TORTURE Mr. Hath, and I'm in a mood today.

What else...

Oh yeah.

Second.

What about that survey that went out from AEG (I think it was) asking what we wanted in a Greatest Hits package. I'm pretty sure nobody voted AGAINST a DVD. In fact, didn't Obie half-mention something about a DVD of the opening of New Giants (sorry, sorry, New Meadowlands Stadium)? Of course, if it follows the same pattern of the MSG DVD, we'll have that in 2013. Everyone else outside the US will have it by Christmas, but not us. We’ll have to see on that.

Finally, what is the benefit to hiding the track list? They already KNOW that we're going to buy the 2-cd package so we can get all four new tracks (again, four, not five?) so what's the harm in letting it all out?

Now, I've asked (outside the blog) if we think these songs are just 'throw-aways' from the Circle record (which would stink), or if they're really new stuff. I've heard that they are in fact new, and a non-Kool-Aid drinker has heard two of the new tracks and says they're awesome. I hope this person's right.

Logistically, we've got only 7 days until the end of August. That means we should be hearing this soon. I wonder if Obie will premier it on WPLJ...

Sag Harbor Student Interview

File this one under "awwwww" and thanks Catte for dropping this in my mailbox

From Hamptons.com

Talk Show Guest Bon Jovi

The latest installment of the on-going "talk show" "I Love This Town" was a bit unusual in that the interview took place "on location." Fourth grader Isabel Peters wrote to rock star Jon Bon Jovi, telling him about the talk show, the name of which was inspired by the song of the same title, written by Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora. She, along with Kindergarten teacher Nina Landi invited him to participate. In her letter Isabel mentioned that this year's theme is all about character and being good citizens of Sag Harbor and the world, and that her parents had told her that he is a giving and generous person and he would fit right in with the theme. As a result of the letter Bon Jovi agreed to be interviewed from his home by Isabel, Landi, and the other talk show host, teaching assistant Paula Krzyzewski.

Besides answering traditional questions about his preferences (color blue, history, biographies, pizza with toppings, chocolate chip cookies, football, Finding Nemo and R2D2, among others) Bon Jovi told the students about the importance of working hard in school. He also focused on writing, mentioning that he writes every day, even when he's having a difficult time coming up with ideas. When that happens he might write about something as simple as what he did the previous day - these snippets can often become part of a bigger piece of writing. The important thing is to exercise your brain by writing.

This ties in very nicely with Writing Workshop, a daily part of the English Language Arts curriculum. The other aspect of the interview that correlated so well with what the Sag Harbor Elementary School is doing is the concept of 'what one little person can do'. Bon Jovi emphasized that it doesn't matter whether it's a small lemonade stand, donating food to a food bank or building homes for impoverished families (his foundation has built 140 homes during the past three years), helping others makes an important difference in this world.

The students and faculty alike were thrilled to have Jon Bon Jovi 'visit' our school and share what he loves about this town.
I had a cute mental picture of Jon curled up with his youngest, with a plate of warm cookies and Nemo on the big-screen.

Then, because I'm a bit twisted that way, I can totally hear Richie in my head saying (eyebrows waggling up and down) "Hello, name's Bruce...  What's a coupla nice bites like you doing out so late?"

~ Hath

As an aside, my mother-in-law is getting a stern talking-to for not sending me this information when it happened lol  She calls me if she sees him around -- usually days later in an 'oh by the way' conversation -- but she missed the boat on this one.  She clearly needs to go back to Stalker School.

Jon Bon Jovi was an Angel in the 80's

... I mean, why else would he have been playing a harp?

I had no idea that Jon Bon Jovi played harp on track 5 of Paul Dean's album, Hard Core. The track, Under the Gun, was co-written by Jon and Richie (along with Dean and fellow Loverboy Mike Reno).

Yeah.  Harp.

No, I'm not kidding.

~ Hath

Edit Aug 24:  I *did* listen to the track before I posted about it, and of COURSE it's not the stringed instrument, but the harmonica.  I was just trying to have a little fun, playing off the slang 'harp' (short for mouth-harp).  Sheesh, this isn't a news website, it's just a blog ;)  And I'm no journalist, I'm just a crazy fan :)

Beach Baby, Beach Baby...

... Show me your abs!  JonBon enjoying the sun this past weekend out in the Hamptons.

And WHO is Jon saying "what the hell do you want NOW" to? Either that or it's "I TOLD you to go before we left the house!"

My hub/son were out there this weekend as well, but not only do they (a) not look ANYTHING like JonBon when they take their shirts off ~ sorry dear Mr. Hath, but you know this to be true ~ but they (b) didn't go to the beach on Saturday.

They did some fishing tournament thing instead.  pffft!  On the plus side, my son caught a day-winning 42  porgies, which were apparently delicious once they were breaded, fried, and served alongside fresh corn-on-the-cob.  Me?  I believe that was the Pop-Tarts-and-Pepsi dinner I tweeted about.
