Mid-Day Motivators: Insomnia

I can think of a few girls who have an idea how to tire the man out...

Happy Weekend!

Did You Know...

... that Richie Sambora and Tico Torres collaborated on the title track to the 1996 Playstation game, Johnny Bazookatone?

Johnny Bazookatone and his band are the hottest group in the universe, spreading peace and happiness with their music. El Diablo, the Lord of the Underworld, sees this and being incapable of creating his own music, steals Johnny's guitar Anita and has his demons kidnap great musical legends from around the planet.

Johnny manages to avoid the goon squads and follows them back to the underworld. There, armed with a bazooka-guitar, he is ready to wreak havoc on the bad guys in an attempt to rescue his true love, Anita.

I had no idea. The track is kinda funky, sorta fun.  Would make a great ring tone.

What do you think?

PS: Some versions of the game came with a music CD.  I found a link to it here (not my link, just found on the 'net).

New Author, New Story

We have a new author, Chels, who has a Jonny fic for you:

The Fastest Way Out Of Jersey

Chels is a typical 16 year old who lives with her sister and gets into trouble with her sister on the morning of her first day of senior high. Her sister Mel upsets her by reminding her of their mum's death and she ends up going to school in tears. She finds herself ending up with her crush the most popular guy in Sayreville War memorial high: John Bongiovi.

*sigh* Yummy Puppy Goodness.

Enjoy!

Wanted Wednesday: July 13, 1996

Please rise, for the playing of our National Anthem...

In honor of the guys' recent trek to Ireland, we visit the RDS Hall in Dublin (again), this time, hopping into Mr. Peabody's WayBack machine, and setting the date for July 13th, 1996.

Lovely acoustic version, with our dear Richie taking the second verse.

Have I mentioned how much I love this song? (lol)

Let's Ride!

You can download the song from my mediafire here. For this one, I had to convert the FLAC to MP3 to get the player widgets to work; if you want the FLAC file, that's here.

Bon Jovi came, saw and rocked Bucharest

From Business Review:

Although a concert venue no longer omitted by major artists, Romania still has a lot of catching up to do on what concerns the legends of the last decades. Bon Jovi’s arrival to Bucharest was therefore long overdue, but it was sure worth the wait, since the American band brought everything that one would expect from performers of their caliber and much, much more! Over 50,000 attended the July 10 concert and sang together to the likes of “Bed of Roses”, “Always” or “Livin’ on a Prayer” in front of what once used to be a symbol of communism, but now became a symbol of freedom, the People’s House.

Bon Jovi took to the stage right on time, right before the audience became too anxious. There were people there who had come early in the morning just so as to get closer to the band, in spite of the scorching heat (there were over 40 degrees Celsius at the location, and the asphalt only made the situation worse). The band started their performance with Raise Your Hands and You Give Love a Bad Name quickly followed. Nobody really cared about the heat anymore since Jon Bon Jovi promised to bring the temperature even higher, a promise that he and his band stuck to until the end.

The most memorable part of the evening came however when Jon Bon Jovi took a Romanian flag from the audience and put it on his back, which brought his “brothers and sisters”, as he addressed the public, into ecstasy. Speaking of the audience, there were people in their twenties to 30/40-somethings (even 50), who in spite of their daily jobs, as perhaps holders of key positions in certain companies, acted out as teenagers watching their idols perform for the first time.

The Only Way To Fly...

Actually, I wouldn't know; never been up in a whirly-bird.  Have an uncle who works at Sikorsky, that's about as close I plan to come with the big, flying insect.

The boys, apparently, do not share my fear of flying in vehicles that would fit in my living room (if you took the rotors off, lol)

Happy Monday!

The World According to Richie

Courtesy of Gibson:
Richie Sambora turns 52 on July 11. Typical of a guitarist in a band that was 2010’s top grossing live act, Sambora will have to squeeze in any celebrations between Bon Jovi mega-shows in Romania and Germany, halfway through the band’s current Circle tour. “My daily planner is the size of a Bible, man!” he recently quipped. And 1959 wasn’t just the year of Sambora’s birth, it was also the year of his most treasured guitar, a sunburst ’59 Gibson Les Paul.

In 28 years of Bon Jovi rockin’, Richie Sambora has experienced many ups and a few downs A member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame since 2009, Sambora is always a generous and witty interviewee, as happy to talk about songcraft, heroes and inspirations, the Bon Jovi “family”, technique and his love affair with the guitar as much as his own considerable talents.

Here are some choice quotes from a guitar-man who has seen a million faces and rocked them all...

On learning to play the guitar...

"I was 14 years old when I decided to teach myself. Some kids are talented at things like sports; well, I had to work really hard at sports, even though I pulled it off OK. Musical instruments, though, were always easy for me because of my ear. I have a good ear. If I hear a song on the radio, most of the time I can go into the dressing room and within five minutes, I know it."

On whether he ever gets bored playing Bon Jovi’s numerous hits...

"No, no, no. Rock 'n' roll is a contact sport,” he told Musicradar.com. “The rush is to take it in front of 70,000 people and have that happen. That's what makes it great. It's like having sex with your clothes on - it's the best thing you can possibly do.

"It's the adjoining of the band and the audience that makes it still really good. And you know what? They're really good songs. Both Jon and I are pretty proud of them. We've discussed it, and we say, ‘Hey, people wanna hear those songs? We're gonna give it to 'em.’ That's it."

And on his admiration for the man Les Paul...

At The Les Paul Tribute concert of 2008; Sambora remembered: “He gave me this special white Les Paul - he wound the pickups himself - for my birthday, first time I met him [during the recording of Bon Jovi’s New Jersey]. I play everything from heavy metal to blues to jazz on it. He just hit it right on the head when he designed the Les Paul. I like it better than most girlfriends I've had. Without him, none of us would have a job."
You can read the rest of the interview here.

Happy Birthday, Richie! May the best memories of this year be the worst memories of the next.
