Resplendent Randomness: Bingo Lotto 2000

Another big cheers out to BrianTheBookie on this one.

Here are HIS comments from the video:

Bon Jovi performing "Say It Isn't So" and "It's My Life" on TV Show Bingo Lotto, which according to my DVD is from the same time as the show in Gotheburg in 2000.

And yes, before the usual moronic comments come in- YES IT IS PLAYBACK!!!! They are Miming, ZOMG BON JOVI MIMED! It happens, frequently on TV shows ok?!

LOL, yeah, but they didn't need a TelePromptR to help them remember which words to mime back then...

It's a L-O-O-O-O-O-ONG Day

The DailyRecord (in the UK) has a neat article about the crew. As Bon Jovi come to Edinburgh, crew tell how the end of the show is just the beginning for them.

Within minutes of the band finishing their set, the crew swing into action, taking down the huge stage, packing it into 1000 flight cases and loading it on to one of 18 waiting trucks.

It's a scene crew chief Mike Rew calls "organised chaos".

As the forklifts roll in, the designated lighting, video and sound teams get to work. For stage manager and veteran roadie Mike Devlin, this is the final part of a 21-hour working day, which started at 6am when the trucks were unloaded and the eight-hour process of building the stage began.

He said: "We unload the trucks in order of set-up. The lighting comes off first as that takes the most time to build, then the video and sound gear follow. It's a game of layers."

As the 18-month Circle World Tour enters its last six weeks in Europe - including a show at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium on Wednesday - these unsung heroes work to make sure fans see a spectacular show, mind-blowing in its scale.
It's a great read; the whole article is here.

Contest for German Fans

At least according to this news article...

Not sure if this means it's only open to those in Germany, but I'd suspect it means (at the very least) that the airfare is from Germany, so you'd have to at least get yourself there...

Resplendent Randomness: Whoops!

Sounds like Richie missed a note on Bed of Roses in Oslo the other night :) Right around the 23 second mark.

Thanks, Kiwi, for pointing that out :)

What do you all think? Jon just looking to see what's going on, or is that stink eye? I dunno, I don't see any brow-furrowing or anything.

Keep watching the rest of the video -- when Jon sprawls out on the stage to reach someone in the crowd -- he was awfully fun and flirty :)

Calling All Writers

Writers of any sort, who are interested in trying out Fan Fiction.  At one of the boards I co-admin, we're trying a writing experiment -- a series of collaborative fan-fiction stories.  There are four stories, one for each of the main band members.  They all start out exactly the same way:
What was that damn noise? And more importantly, why wouldn't it stop?

He squinted his eyes against the sunlight glaring through the slit between hotel curtain and wall. Why couldn't you ever get those curtains closed all the way? If you pulled it closed on one side, it was too short on the other. Why couldn't a single fucking hotel on the planet buy curtains the right width for their windows?

And what the fuck was that noise?

He lifted his head to look around the room, trying to locate the insistent buzzing noise, but the stabbing pain that exploded in his brain made him growl in pain and drop his head back on the damn pillow.

Gingerly, he rolled onto his side, closer to the edge of the bed and slapped around on the side table, hoping to find whatever was making the buzzing noise. His hand finally landed on a watch. He peeped through one bleary eye and was able to tell that is was an expensive looking piece of jewelry, but it didn't look familiar. How the hell did you make it quit buzzing?

And did it really say it was 3:00 in the afternoon?

He'd have to suck it up and sit up on the bed. He was a man damn it! He could do this. Slowly, he sat up on the side of the bed only to drop his head in his hands. That lasted all of three seconds before the damn watch buzzed in his ear again.

Quickly, he stuffed it under the closest pillow on the bed, only then noticing the note on the bedside table. He glanced around the room again. Yep, he was alone. With bleary eyes, he read the note written on the hotel stationery.

Good afternoon, Rock Star.

Last night was a lot of fun, but next time let's not end up in jail. The bondsman is waiting to hear from you today. The hotel was demanding an explanation about the golf cart and the fountain.

Oh, and your mom called.

Later, Lover.
Where they go from there is up to us.  The stories are completely independent, and you can write on more than one at a time if you're so inclined.  You can even post anonymously, if you're bashful about flexing your writing chops in front of an audience.

If you're interested in finding out more, head on over to T's Place and sign up (it's free, and there's no obligation to stay lol).  You have to send a PM to T (the board owner) saying you want access to the Fan Fiction section, and let her know you heard about it here.

Once you have access to the fan fiction section, look for a forum called "The Circle" -- All the info you need (including whatever progress has been made on thestories) is inside.

If you've ever thought about writing, but were "afraid" to post under a name everyone in the Ether knows you by, this is a great, safe environment to test the waters.

Come on down!!

Telford Students go Behind the Scenes

Four students from Edinburgh’s Telford College have been given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of working behind-the-scenes for the day when international rockers Bon Jovi perform at Murrayfield Stadium next Wednesday, June 22.

The students – who between them have studied journalism, technical theatre and TV production at the College – have been offered the opportunity to gain some hands-on experience working as interns at Bon Jovi’s only Scottish performance at Murrayfield Stadium.

They will receive a backstage tour and be posted to various departments shadowing professional crew and gaining insights into production, management, customer service, ticketing, as well as the opportunity of joining media in filming and photographing part of the show for college projects.

Bon Jovi’s VIP Coordinator, Mike Savis said: “It’s not just being a roadie for the day, what we do with Bon Jovi is the ultimate modern live production, playing to tens of thousands of people at huge venues all over the world.

"It’s the greatest job in the world and we learn every day, inventing ways to make everything work, to adjust to each venue, to keep making sure the biggest band in the world put on the greatest rock show on earth night after night. Anything we can pass onto the next generation is a privilege.”

Commenting on the exciting experience they are being given, 19-year-old TV Production student, David Black from Edinburgh said: “I'm looking forward to finding out what it takes to make a big concert like Bon Jovi's work. I think it will be interesting to find out how much preparation goes into making something on such a large scale like this run smoothly.

"It will be good to see all the work done before they come on to play and when the music starts and there are thousands of fans watching. And obviously I'm looking forward to watching and getting the chance to film the concert.

"I haven't had any experience filming anything like this on my course so far, so it will be great experience to do it for the first time with Bon Jovi in front of the lens.”

Interview: Jon Bon Jovi, singer

From the Edinburgh News:

What's probably so funny to Jon Bon Jovi is that his band have sold more than 120 million albums and were the biggest earners in music last year, raking in a staggering £130 million during their 2010 world tour.

That said, ask the 50-year-old if his band have finally got the respect they're due and he'll say it all depends on how you define respect.

"Is longevity respect? Is coming home and having your family be proud of you respect?" says the man whose band has enjoyed 20 hits, including You Give Love A Bad Name, Wanted Dead Or Alive and Lay Your Hands On Me.

"I don't know if what you're asking me is, critical acclaim, you know?" he continues. "There are critics' darlings. That I won't be. I got that."

On Wednesday, the band kick off the UK leg of their 2011 world tour at Murrayfield, which has a capacity of 67,000. Not that playing the home of Scottish rugby will faze them - after all, they've already performed more than 2600 concerts in over 50 countries for more than 32 million fans.

"What gets us on the road is its fun," explains keyboardist David Bryan, whose band played Ibrox in 1996 and Hampden in both 2002 and 2008. "Putting that many smiles on that many faces, it's a great thing. And you know, it puts a smile on our faces too."

Bon Jovi have played more than 85 shows since the Full Circle tour started in 2010 - but they're showing no signs of flagging as they return to the UK.

"It's great to be back," says Jon Bon Jovi, whose band will be back in its full line-up in Edinburgh after lead guitarist Richie Sambora rejoined after his recent stint in rehab.

"It's the final leg of the Circle tour, the longest tour we've done in almost two decades."

The World's Highest-Paid Musicians

Forbes has listed Bon Jovi among the world's highest paid musicians.  Coming on the heels of The Video That Delivered A Bitch Slap To American Fans, this isn't giving folks a warm and fuzzy.
Two decades ago Jon Bon Jovi sat with the members of his eponymous band in a basement in New Jersey. Hoping to rekindle the group’s desire to make music after two grueling years on the road, he’d hung vintages posters on the wall, illuminated only by candles and blacklights. But instead of feeling inspired, Bon Jovi found himself becoming cranky and short of breath.

“I’m thinking maybe this is an issue, maybe I just don’t like them,” Bon Jovi said in a recent interview for the FORBES Celeb 100 issue. “Until I realized that all the oxygen was sucked out of the room by the candles … So I blew out the candles, cranked up the amplifiers, and said, ‘We’re going to be a rock band. If you believe in what I’m telling you, we can be the Rolling Stones.’”

Sure enough, Bon Jovi is still rocking. The group earned $125 million over the past 12 months, enough to claim the No. 2 spot on FORBES’ annual list of the world’s highest-paid musicians.

The Top Ten:

1. U2 ($195 million)
2. Bon Jovi ($125 million)
3. Elton John ($100 million)
4. Lady Gaga ($90 million)
5. Michael Bublé ($70 million)
6. Paul McCartney ($67 million)
7. The Black Eyed Peas ($61 million)
8. The Eagles ($60 million)
9. Justin Bieber ($53 million)
10. Dave Matthews Band ($51 million)

You can see all 25 musicians here.

Sorry BonJovi.com

You made a list you don't wanna be on: The 8 Most Terrible Celebrity Websites (according to WIX).   I know lots of us have complained about how hard it is to find things on the official site -- you really have to go hunting for certain things -- so it's nice to get validation of sorts.

Here's what the reviewers at WIX had to say:
Normally, when you go to a website, it’s really hard to find the navigation. It could be anywhere from the top or bottom of the screen to the left or the right. Oh the humanity! Don’t fret though because Bon Jovi has included at least 3 navigation bars for your viewing ease. He’s also included about 4 different places to integrate yourself with his page on Facebook, Tweet with him or sign up to his newsletter that I’m sure tells all his fans that he just added a fifth Facebook button so you can like liking him while you like liking his page. So meta.

Filling out the rest of the top 8:
Tom Cruise
Paris Hilton
Tyra Banks
Dane Cook
Gwyneth Paltrow
Jeff Bridges

Munich Show Review

We have a guest blogger today, Rike.  She attended the show in Munich, and I asked her to provide a review for those of us who couldn't be at the show; she graciously agreed.  Here's what she sent me.  Thanks, Rike!!

~ Hath

Good morning from Germany. I did an audio recording from the Munich show. It's not the best quality, because it was so loud around me. So you can hear more our singing. But you can share it, when you want. you can download it here:

Rike's Munich Download

my short review:

Munich wasn't on my tourplan originally. 3 weeks ago a friend asked me if I knew someone who is looking for a fanclub GC ticket. I was thinking a bit and since I was visiting my son in the week of the show and he lives closer to Munich than I; I said to her I would take the ticket.

I went to Munich a day before, friends of mine were there already and we camped out in front of the stadium for a low number on the list. You know, we don't have seats here in Europe.(only on the tribune) and when you want front row, (for golden circle tix front row is right outside the ramp) you have to be there very early. My tour buddies arrived way earlier than me, so they got No 4 and 5. I came almost midnight and ended with No 72. But thats ok, I'm tall and look over their heads. ;-)

Munich is a nice place for camp out, there are enough roofs, so you can stay dry. And there is a little bistro near the tennis courts, there you can have a shower and you get a delicious breakfast.

A week before the show I contacted the woman who had bought the fanclub tix on her name and she said she would arrive in Munich around 2:30 or 3pm. Ok, I could live with this, it was supposed that the fanclub could go in around 4pm. so plenty of time for her to pick up the tickets and give it to me. She never said that she meant her arriving time was for the hotel. so I was waiting and waiting. And then, because of the amount of people, security decided that the fanclub has to go in at 3pm. Fine!! I had a low number for a good spot, but no ticket in my hands. I went angry and she sent me not so nice text messages back. my friends and the rest of the fanclub were inside for more than a hour when she finally arrived at 5pm. I took my ticket and my wristbands from her and turned around before I would say some nasty comments. Normally I'm not such a emotional person, but all the waiting and so had me shaking and in tears. Julian from the fanclub staff was so nice to me all the time and he gave me a bottle of wat
er and a tourbook for free.

A big thank you goes to my friends, they saved me a spot right on the circle, in the middle. There were the band would stay during the acoustic set. I calmed down and was able to enjoy my 30th show. The support act was a young band from Denmark, "The Breakers." They are not bad, we got worse acts in the past ;).

Our expectations were pretty high after the setlist from Dresden and because we know the band loves playing in Munich. They started early at 8pm (because of the webcast I think), so we could count on a 3 hour show.We wouldn't disappointed.

The vibes in the stadium were incredible. Not even on the tribunes people were sitting anymore after the 1st song. Sometimes you couldn't hear the band, so loud did we sing the songs. I think my ears are still ringing.

I know a lot of people say the show in Dresden was better. But I wasn't there and it was more than a year that I could enjoy a stadium show. I didn't miss something. The guys were on fire, Jon was grinning from the beginning and not even a dead microphone on the circle could change his mood. It was obvious that he was happy to have Richie back. They were cuddling a lot.

But I have to say Richie has still a long way to go. He looks great, he lost weight and he played some hell of guitar solos. But I missed some Richie moments, no middle finger during HAND, his moves when they played Bad Medicine and he has voice problems. You could hear it when he sang IBTFY with Jon. Maybe thats the reason why he is not singing a solo song. And sometimes he was so inwardly-looking. But he really enjoyed the support he got from the audience and when Jon was singing the added lyrics during IBTFY, Richie was standing next to him and listening in astonishment.

Bells of Freedom acoustic is absolutely amazing, I hope they keep it in the setlist.

I needed the slower part of the show to recover a bit, I'm not 20 anymore ;)

But then the show continued and I was singing and dancing. I lost my hope that Jon will ever skip who says from the setlist, but I refused to do the "It's alrights". In my opinion, the Captn and the confetti party is enough *lol*

"The more things change" is a great song for a stadium show, I didn't expect that.

There were no more surprises in the setlist, but that doesn't matter. It was all in all a absolutely great show, great weather, an incredible audience and a band on fire. sure, I'd like to have Undivided, Bounce and Something to believe in on my show. But they can't play their whole catalog on one show. Maybe I get lucky on my next shows. For now I have to recover a bit more. ;)

xoxo

Munich Stream

If you, like me, missed the stream over the weekend (no wi-fi in the car on the way home from Maine lol) then thanks to the magic of YouTube, and the very lovely serpephone , you can watch it here:

There have been LOTS of comments about the recent set lists, and how Europe gets "all the good shows", while others have said the song selection was great, but Jon sounded like crap.

As for the second, well, nobody's perfect -- if sinuses/allergies were bothering him, he wouldn't be at his best.
As for the first, we in the StatesWOULD get better set lists if a bunch of things happened:

[1] IF people wouldn't sit down for good portions of the show, texting or otherwise ignoring the band.

[2] IF the venues didn't reserve the best seats for VIPs who don't give a shit about the band, just the status of having been in "the front row".

[3] IF more than a couple thousand fans at the shows actually DID know all the words.

Just my two cents' worth of input today.
