They've Hated Videos from the Start

... or at least since 1985. Though they did like the one for In and Out of Love. Wonder if it's still their favorite?

And apparently the critics NEVER liked them. I liked Jon's remarks at the end about that. The ham :)

How adorable is Richie tipping his chair back? I keep waiting for the legs to buckle, poor baby :)

"You have to see us live to really know what we're about." Amen, Brother Richie... Amen.

Joelle, you got anything else for me??

In His Own Words...

... Jon's an asshole to work for :)

Just give a listen to this, around the 2:00 mark.

Thanks for this, Joelle; I hadn't seen it before.

Break In at the Manse

Several of you have sent this to me (thanks Rike, Teale, KK, FP) and I guess that means it's time to share. In case you haven't seen this; from the Asbury Park Press:

MIDDLETOWN — The riverside home of rocker Jon Bon Jovi and properties of his Navesink River Road neighbors were burglarized by a Beachwood man accused of heisting more than $500,000 in jewelry from the homes over the past month, police said.

Nicholas J. Tracy, 21, of Clubhouse Road in Beachwood, was arrested Wednesday, after a burglar alarm was tripped at a home in the 400 block of Navesink River Road, prompting Patrolmen Ryan Riffert and Carl Roth to respond to the scene, according to Detective Lt. Stephen Dollinger.
The patrolmen searched the home to discover Tracy hiding in a third-floor bathroom, Dollinger said.

Following an investigation by Detectives William Strohkirch and Peter White, Tracy was charged with burglarizing Bon Jovi's $22.25 million, 15-acre estate along the Navesink River on April 3, where he grabbed jewelry belonging to Bon Jovi's wife Dorothea Bongiovi valued at $100,000, according to documents.

Tracy is also accused of burglarizing another home on March 14, netting jewelry valued at $103,912, and another neighbor's home on April 1, when he grabbed $300,000 in jewelry, court records reveal.

Tracy is charged with four counts of third-degree burglary and three counts of second-degree theft. He was remanded to the Monmouth County Jail in Freehold Township on $100,000 bail with no option to post 10 percent, as set by township Municipal Court Judge Richard Thompson. He remains in the jail today, according to jail records.

Hopefully the Bongiovi's will get Dorothea's jewelry back. Hopefully they've really beefed up the security at the manse.  I sure would.

Catte's Friend M

Catte has a lovely friend who I'll call M who has a really cool job that requires a lot of waiting for things to finish.  She kills the time surfing for Jovi Love (among other things).

Here's a recent batch from her, from some London photo shoots last year.

Anyone have the Richie one non-watermarked?

Red Bank Community Restaurant

From the Asbury Park Press:
The foundation started by Central Jersey rocker Jon Bon Jovi plans to open its first community restaurant on Monmouth Street, where, pending local approvals, no one will get denied a good, nutritious meal.

Plans were filed late last month by the Philadelphia based Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation to convert a former auto repair shop to a neighborhood restaurant that will serve low-cost or no-cost meals to the community.

"This will be our first community kitchen, it would be fantastic if it took off and we could replicate it," said Mimi Box, executive director of the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation. "This is operated just like a restaurant. People can bring their families, they have a selection of items and have options to pay cash or volunteer."

Volunteers can work at the kitchen or with other local charities that need volunteers that the foundation hopes to work with, she said. Those who can afford to pay, could also donate more toward another person's meal, Box said.

Not THAT Demanding...

Thanks, Lida for the translation!
This is an article on a Greek blog about Jon demands when it comes to his visit in Greece.
The article is this word for word:

"Bon Jovis concert in Athens is the biggest show of a foreign act of the year in Greece. But the band has some crazy demands. Their managers have asked that the Olympic Stadium switches hands a week before the show so that no one moves at the area of the venue or the backstage without a special pass. They are so strict, says the rep of the label in Greece Alex Patakis that the band demands to have security similar to that of a US airport. As far as Jon Bon Jovi's private sections of the stadium is concerned the order is clear. No one goes through without a check.

According to a daily newspaper, backstage they have asked that there is a place for work out and massage. Because they will be spending the biggest part of their stay in the stadium and because they are bringing their own chefs on tour there will kitchens in the stadium so that their meals are properly made and comes in time. There may be a greeting room for the lucky people they decide to see, mostly celebrities"
Original Greek

That's not as bad as it could be.  If  YOU were a rock star, what kinds of demands would YOU make?

Singing Lessons?

Take an innocuous dinner... (lol)

Tom Cruise, set to play Stacee Jaxx in the film adaptation "Rock of Ages," was seen dining with his good friend Jon Bon Jovi in New York Tuesday night, possibly getting some singing tips from the rocker.

The "Mission: Impossible" actor did sign up for vocal lessons from the guy who trained former Guns n' Roses frontman Axl Rose. "He's been studying with -- seriously -- Axl Rose's voice teacher like five hours a day," "Rock of Ages" director Adamn Shankman told TheWrap last week. "The prognosis is more than excellent."

Cruise, Bon Jovi and their wives, Katie Holmes and Dorothea Bon Jovi, enjoyed a meal at the NYC eatery Il Contonori.
You can find the article here.

So, what advice do you think Jon would give Tom, if he were so inclined?

There are a couple of photos of Jon and Dorothea leaving the restaurant after dinner.

JBJ May 9 Charity Performance

Thanks, Teale, for dropping me a line with this news.

Spielberg to attend Shoah institute fund-raiser in Philadelphia

Film great Steven Spielberg and some of his Hollywood friends will gather in Philadelphia to fete Comcast Corp. chief executive officer Brian L. Roberts - a sign of the city's growing clout in the heart of the movie-making industry.

The May 9 event is a first in Philadelphia for the University of Southern California's Shoah Foundation Institute. The gathering should raise $2 million for the institute's work preserving on digital files the memories of Holocaust survivors and expanding its archives of testimony from other genocides.

Spielberg established the institute in 1994 after filming Schindler's List, which told the story of German businessman Oskar Schindler, who managed to save some 1,100 Jews from the gas chambers of the Auschwitz concentration camp.

Roberts said that this would be the largest public event he has done since the deal with NBC Universal and that he was honored to participate in it because he considered Schindler's List "one of the moving films of our generation." He is already preparing his remarks for the event. Jersey rocker Jon Bon Jovi is scheduled to perform at the gala.

According to one of the organizers, the cheapest ticket is $1500 (in case anyone was looking to attend).

Agora, Ohio, 1984

Jane Scott was there at Live Aid back in 1983, and she blogged about it here.  She meanders through memories of the show, and segues into paragraphs about different artists she's met in or who've played at different venues in Ohio over the years.  She has this to say about our boys:
Bon Jovi was living on little more than a prayer when the band came to Cleveland in March 1984. The crowd went to the Agora to see the Cleveland band Beau Coup, then began to filter out before Bon Jovi had taken the stage.

Agora owner Henry Lo Conti was able to herd only about 150 fans back into the club to see the New Jersey band.

"I felt embarrassed for the guy," Lo Conti said of lead singer Jon Bon Jovi. But Jon Bon Jovi sang like there were 1,000 people in the crowd. Two years later, after the band hit it big with the album "Slippery When Wet," it drew 42,000 to Lo Conti's Buckeye Lake Center near Columbus.
Could you imagine (today) an intimate 150-person show?  How much would the die-hard fans LOVE that :)

This reminded me of the story from when Jon was working on U-571 with Matthew McConaughey. Remember this one?

Matthew asked Jon, "How do you stay so humble?" Jon answered, "Do you know what color the seats are in the stadium in Knoxsville, Tennessee? They are orange. I know that because I saw a bunch of empty seats at our concert there." Matthew subsequently sent Jon a section of the bleacher seats when the Knoxville stadium was demolished.

Anyway, if you want to hear the show, you can get the bootleg from D & P's Bootleg Tunz World.  It's an amazing show.

Bon Jovi to be there for (OS)U

The Lantern (Ohio State's student-run newspaper) has an article about the upcoming May 10 show at Nationwide Arena:
A few ingredients for a Bon Jovi rock and roll show include 807 kilowatts of power, 400 cups of coffee, 83 crew members and eight Ohio State students.

Eight OSU students have been selected to receive a hands-on experience with the Bon Jovi tour when it comes to Nationwide Arena May 10.

The students will work with the production team, among other crews apart of the tour, to see how the show is built from the ground up. They will be a part of everything from the building of sets, shooting video, sound checks and visuals.

"They are not so much working at the show as it's more about speaking with different departments," said Mike Savas, tour manager and VIP coordinator. "They get a backstage tour, they get a view of how everything works."

Bon Jovi and his team are providing this opportunity to college students as a way to give back to the communities they visit during their tour.

Wanted Wednesday: Boston 1991 (Richie)

Please rise, for the singing of our national anthem...

I was actually looking for a video for a different version of Wanted for this week's WW, and came across this one. It's a condensed-for-tv version of the song (missing a verse and the solo), but I was totally mesmerized by the video.

Look at the way Richie is grinning the whole way through. You can't tell me he doesn't love playing for a crowd, and he is having a great time.

Hmmm, in 1991 I was a junior in college, and worrying about grad school applications instead of music. *sigh*

Thanks to Rumen81 for posting this and totally derailing my plans for today! :) I've watched this a half-dozen time already today.

Let's Ride!

The MP3 rip of this video is here.
The video itself can be taken here.
I pulled LOTS of screen caps from this video (it's too pretty not to!!) Those are here.

Brokenpromiseland DVD Set Questions

Hey everyone!

I've gotten a bunch of questions about the DVD 5-pack (culled from YouTube) of the Australia/New Zealand shows.  Rather than try to answer everyone individually, I thought I'd just post about it.

Here are a couple of things to know about this (and most other multi-file RAR set):

[1] RAR files are compressed archive files (like ZIP files). You almost always have to download them ALL to be able to unzip them.  In this case, you definitely need them all to extract the goodies inside.

[2] You can open/extract from RAR files with a number of programs; some of my favorites are winRAR, winZIP, and 7ZIP (free).  There are other tools, but these are the ones I use on my PC.

[3] The contents of the RAR files (for this download) are not the individual video files, but rather DVD directories (VIDEO_TS).  You need software for burning a DVD.  I use the utility that comes with DVDVideoSoft's bundle (free), but you can use NeroRoxio, or a host of other tools.

-- Most tools require both VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories.  If there is no AUDIO_TS directory, you can create one.  It doesn't matter if it's empty (apparently), it just has to be there.

I haven't downloaded this set of files yet (I'm working on downloading some other stuff first), but hopefully this helps folks out who are having troubles.

Good Luck!
