Soraia in the Studio with Jon
Soraia has announced on their website that they're hitting the studios in April to work on a new record, and Jon Bon Jovi not only offered the use of his studio, but also said he wanted to be involved in making the record with them. Here's [part of] what was posted on the website:
We're starting a new record in mid April....finishing up all the songs we already have begun in demo form that we've shared with you live and writing a ton more amidst the shows we're playing over the next month. So I'll be honest with you. Soraia only came to my attention because of the work Obie does with them. Obie's in the Jovi sphere, so viola. Since then, however, I've come to really like the music, based on the merits. The clincher for me? A [very] recent unplugged performance from a radio gig where they performed their new track "I Want What I Want". (You can download the track here.)
And here's a piece of truly inspiringly-good news about the upcoming record as well:
Not only are we on FIRE in our writing and excited to get started, but also - after the show we did in Philadelphia last week - Jon Bon Jovi offerred us the use of his studio for the making of our record. If that wasn't enough, he also said he would like to be involved in the process of making this record with us....
SON OF A GUN. WHAAAAAAAAA???
It's all happening, yeah?
So, we are truly excited, honored, still reelin' AAAAAAND rockin' with this amazing news...and so ready to get to work to bring you some new material.
For me, the true measure of a band is listening to them live. And unplugged. Anyone can mask weak vocals with slammin' guitar licks or pounding beats on the drums. Take the LOUD away, and give me the voices and the rhythm. That's what you get here.
The guitar/tambourine lead in a perfect intro to Sue's lyrics. The first time I heard this, I immediately thought of Janis Joplin. Sue seems to have the same sort of rasp on this track, and it made me want to give it a second listen. And a third. That's not to say she doesn't have her own sound, because she does. Her voice is raw and powerful and sensual and in-your-face, and by the third listen, I was singing along in my head. You will too.
In any event, I'm looking forward to Soraia's new record, and hope HOPE that Jon's involvement includes a different production staff than who worked on The Circle. Just sayin'. It would be a shame to ruin Soraia's sound with too much smoothing.
Just sayin'.
OK (rubs hands together) onto the good stuff. My dear friend @JovisWillow is working with Soraia somewhat, helping with social networking and photography/videography, and basically doing whatever kinds of things they need doing. She and Catte have put a BUNCH of things together, and the lovely Ms. Catte took time out of her day today to put it in one place for me -- a big-ass email that I'm going to pretty much dump here for you. Interviews, songs, websites, all sorts of yummy goodness.
Here goes.
All the Bon Jovi/Soraia stuff that aired on WMMR on Jon's birthday / Concert Day is here.
On my Mediafire, I have a folder for All Things Soraia. That link is here.
Inside that folder is a BUNCH of stuff:
Vampire (cover of Concrete Blonde song) -- Catte, I have to agree, this is a GREAT showcase for Sue's voice.
Had Enough (from Shed the Skin, 2009 album, featuring Richie on guitar)
The new song Sue has been working on with Jon (that she talks about in the WMMR interview) is Love Amnesia -- both JovisWillow and Catte did YouTube videos of it (from opposite sides of the Pit) They're linked on BJCT. They'll be duly ripped for the BJCT MediaFire folder soon.
On Soraia's homepage at ReverbNation you can listen to Runaround, Love Like VooDoo, Not the Woman, On the Horizon, Little Cat, and Shed the Skin
The video they did in 2009 with Obie and Jon in the giant Fro Wig is Not the Woman. It's on YouTube on Soraia's channel. There are also some clips of Soraia warming up backstage at Wells Fargo, doing a shoot with Mark Weiss, in studio, backstage before the SPAC show, etc. Some fun stuff.
Immerse yourself. You'll thank me later.

Students help setup at Mohegan
Uncasville, Conn. (WTNH) - Local students who want to break into show business got a chance to help set up for the Bon Jovi concert at Mohegan Sun.
"We'll build a stage out in about six or seven hours and it takes about two or three hours to strip it all down," explained Mike Savas, Management Coordinator.
In each city Bon Jovi does more than wow the crowds with the classics. The band also invites a group of students to get a behind the scenes look at the life of a roadie.
"Giving back to local communities. Giving them insight and for the roadies it's really cool because we're so disconnected from real life," Savas said.
The Quinnipiac seniors are getting a rare look at what goes into a major production.
"For me, I've never really been part of the music industry and kind of like a real life situation so I think that this is a situation experience is really, you can't get anywhere else," said senior Caitlin Goldberg.
It's also a chance to network which could lead to real work. Mike Savas hires four locals as management assistants for the day when he's in town.
"If one of these people called me and said I want to work for the day, don't tell them that then I'll have 20 people calling me, but yeah if someone was special I would absolutely hire them for the day," Savas said.

Miss the show last week? Bon Jovi will be coming back to the Mohegan Sun Arena in May.
looks around frantically for lottery ticket
I like how the setup takes THAT much longer than the breakdown. Kind of like preparing Thanksgiving Dinner. I think it's great that they're giving the college kids this opportunity.

JonBon's Cake
I know, old news. But I've been out of the loop for a while with some personal crap, so I'm playing catch-up -- bear with me :)
Here's the custom birthday cake that Chestnut Hill's Bredenbeck's Bakery (8126 Germantown) created for Jon Bon Jovi. Gorgeous cake. I wonder if it tasted as good as it looked? And was it actually "cake" or was it "cereal treats"? I watch Cake Boss lol and the Food Network Challenge and they get away with calling lots of things 'cake' that aren't technically cake. Yeah, Iobsess wonder about these things...

Wanted Wednesday: Cincinnati, March 19, 1987
Please rise for the playing of our national anthem.Yes, this week, back in 1987 the boys were doing 10+ minute versions of this song. Ah, those were the days, right? If I had Mr. Peabody's Way-Back machine, I know where I'd go...
From the "wind sweeping in" (which was a bit long -- wonder what they were doing all that time?) to the 2+ minute intro to Jon's strong, sexy vocals... It's a good one. The tempo of the song is a bit slower than the record but that doesn't detract at all from the performance. This bootleg is a good quality too, so you can hear all the puppy goodness quite clearly.
Let's Ride!

March Madness!
No, I'm not blogging about college b-ball. Football and hockey are my sports.
ESPN is doing a Rock Band tournament. Bon Jovi is the #5 seed in the New York Region, up against #12 seed Dave Matthews Band in the first round. As of "right now" the Jovi is ahead by a slim margin (54% - 46%).

Thanks, Catte, for the drop!

Outside The Box
I have been sitting on this for a while -- not sure why, but on a dreary, rainy Monday morning, this seems like the perfect time to dust it off and get it out there to you all.
Outside the Box is a band fronted by the talented Jeff Cafone, a true-blue Jersey boy. They call the Stone Pony their home base, and recently put out an EP, available here.
If you like what you hear, you can find out more about them and follow them in various places:
On their website: http://www.outsidetheboxband.com/
On Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Outside-the-Box/64886086968
On Twitter: http://twitter.com/otbmusic
They worked with Bobby Bandiera and Jeff Kazee on their EP, and hit the studios early this year to record their first album. Bobby has been mentoring the band and Kazee produced the EP, not to mention that Jeff has opened for the Jukes on numerous occasions. With that kind of involvement, they have to be going places, right?
Give them a listen, let me know what you think!
