Mid-Day Motivator: Sexy

And Catte also one for the curl-girls.

Ms. Catte's been busy!  How 'bout the rest of you?  I still have a bunch to post, so we can go another couple weeks on this, but they're running low -- it takes about 5 minutes to whip one up.  Why not give it a try?

Sambora's Amazon Playlist

Thanks to J for sending me this.  Apparently Richie's been asked for his input for an Amazon play list.  (This is different from the iTunes Celebrity Playlist Podcast thing that was done).

Here are Richie's picks and his reasons why.

"Bell Bottom Blues," Derek & The Dominos: More than anything else, it was my discovery of Eric Clapton that made me want to learn the guitar. It was life-changing. It's quite possible Eric Clapton really is God.

"Scuttle Buttin'," Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble: Phenomenal guitarist, a real master of the blues... but a career and life cut way too short. It's heartbreaking to imagine the music he'd be making if he was still with us.

"All Along the Watchtower," Jimi Hendrix: I remain such a huge fan of Jimi Hendrix. He changed the game for guitar players. Plus, covering a Bob Dylan classic. The playing and the singing is so emotive.

"The World," Brad Paisley: Brad's a massive star in the country world but people who don't think they like country music are missing out on one of the greatest players of a generation. He's a phenomenal guitarist, puts on a really fun live show, and has a real good sense of humor making ingenious videos.

"Glitter In The Air," P!nk: I've love P!nk, whether she's showing the hard or softer version. She's got a killer voice and is great live. The raw emotion of these vocals moves me, and her performance on the Grammy's was pure magic. She's so, so, so the real deal.

"Purple Rain," Prince: Prince is a genius, period. He can play every instrument -- he's a guitar virtuoso. He mashes us rock 'n' roll, blues, funk, pop, gospel, Motown, and dance music like a mad scientist and invents phenomenal stuff. Purple Rain catapulted him into superstardom but the song holds up and remains a favorite.

"Best of You," Foo Fighters: Again and again and again, Dave Grohl and the band keep churning out great records full of energy and passion. Rock 'n' roll ain't dead at all.

"Manhattan," Kings of Leon: I love that these guys stuck to their own sound until they were a huge success overseas, and then finally snowballed organically into a worldwide phenomenon. Caleb Followill's voice floors me every time.

"I'd Rather Go Blind," Etta James: I've been listening to a ton of Etta James lately. Sometimes you're just in an Etta James kind of mood. Her voice, her timing... this song just captures the emotion and the era.

"I'll Be Your Water," Keb Mo': One man and an acoustic guitar; poignant, simple lyrics about devotion and loyalty. Keb Mo' is the classic singer/songwriter wrapped up in the blues. I dig his stuff a lot.

RANT: Lay Your Hands On Me

Why?

On the Greatest Hits album, why cut this song?

Why cut the intro out completely?

Why cut short Sambora's solo?

Why?

What did you save?  Like 30 seconds?  You can get 10 of that back by taking off the horrid intro to The More Things Change.  The other 20?  Take the bridge out of Who Says.

But really, did the 30 seconds make a difference?  Nothing else was cut; why this one?

Why?

Celluloid Heroes

Ray Davies' "See My Friends" hits the US next March (you can pre-order here). However, it was released in the UK on November 8th, and is available for purchase now.

Celluloid Heroes is the track on this record to which Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora loaned their talent.  Not everyone was impressed. Philip Cosores at Consequence of Sound had this to say:
Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora strip the sentiment from the sentimental “Celluloid Heroes”, playing Los Angeles like Brandon Flowers’ plays Las Vegas on his new album. 70’s soft rock ballads are tricky becuase they were only acceptable in the 70’s, and the Bon Jovi-updating should have been predictable in its soulless execution.
Michael Hann at The Guardian liked the record with one notable exception:
The only outright failure is Celluloid Heroes, turned into a power ballad by Jon Bon Jovi, with a squealing guitar solo from Richie Sambora.
Yikes.  I didn't think it was that bad at all.  But what do I know?  I enjoyed it, but I like the song anyway.

Give it a listen -- what do you think?

JonBon: 6th Sexiest Man Alive

At least according to this week's People Magazine.

That's not too shabby, considering how many sexy men there are out there. Though I know at least ONE of you will comment with "he should have been #1!"

Based on this picture, I can't say as I blame you...

He reigned as a big-haired heartthrob in the '80s, but Jon Bon Jovi, 48, tells PEOPLE, "The cliché of the rock star was never me." Instead, the singer, who's been married for 21 years and is the father of four, counts his greatest achievements in his music and his Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation. Another point of pride? "I've never had Botox," he says.

Wanted Wednesday: KLOS, Christmas 2009 (Richie)

Please rise, for the singing of our national anthem...

Here's another Richie one, a recent goodie.

In 2009, Richie participated in a charity gig for KLOS in LA. The gig was simulcast over the radio, and of COURSE, Wanted had to make an appearance. I warned you that some weeks, I wouldn't have much to say; this is one of them. Just kick back, and smile.

Let's ride!

You can download it here.

And thanks to LABlueForever, we can watch this particular bit of deliciousness...

Target Exclusive

The spies are out and about :)

Catte was in her local Target (Tar-zhay in my neck of the woods) and came across an "exclusive edition" of the Greatest hits 1-disc release that contained two bonus tracks: Diamond Ring and WWBTF from NMS in May. They were sold out of the 2-disc set, so we don't know if there's a special edition there. I had a date at my local T-town tomorrow after school anyway, so I'll see what I can find.

Anyone know if WalMart has a different exclusive edition? 'Cause you know, can't have just ONE copy of anything....

Monday Afternoon PickMeUp

Thanks Kiwi for this in my inbox.  *sigh*

I love their music (of course) but I love it when they do cover tunes too.  They should totally bring this cover back.
