No Apologies (Lyrics)

Thanks to LeeAnn for the lyrics transcription. Still don't love it, but dammit, it gets stuck in my head.  It's catchy.  Which is probably the point.  I was right, Hathlet adores the song.  Fits right in with the rest of his kidlet music.  Was that the goal?  Suck in the young'uns?  If so, mission accomplished, boys!
No apologies (no apologies)
We will not back down (no apologies)
We are not afraid (no apologies)
Not a drop of doubt

Let's start this from the happy ending
Just another white trash train track kid
Fightin' for survival
Tryin' not to do like his daddy did

Double down the devil at Three-Card Monte
No apology, he just knew when to quit
Push your luck, say your prayers
Make believe you don't care
Take a chance, sometimes it's all you need

No apologies
No apologies (no apologies)
We will not back down (no apologies)
We are not afraid (no apologies)
Not a drop of doubt (no apologies)
Hand in hand across this land
Our voices shouting out
No apologies
No apologies

You wanna start a personal revolution
I think you're livin' somebody else's life
You can lie about retribution
But there ain't no fire in your lover's eyes
Seems like everybody's sellin' their dreams 'round here
But no one's buyin' and it's closing time
Light the fuse, make your breaks
There's no time left to waste
Baby, just like freedom, nothing's free

No apologies
No apologies (no apologies)
We will not back down (no apologies)
We are not afraid (no apologies)
Not a drop of doubt (no apologies)
Hand in hand across this land
Our voices shouting out
No apologies

You wanna start a personal revolution
What else you gotta do tonight?

No apologies
No apologies (no apologies)
We will not back down (no apologies)
We are not afraid (no apologies)
Not a drop of doubt (no apologies)
Hand in hand across this land
Our voices shouting out
No apologies (no apologies)
No apologies
(no apologies)
No apologies
Hand in hand across this land
Our voices shouting out
No apologies

You can still stream the song at bonjovi.com, or you can download it here.

Now, before you jump down my throat about sharing commercial material, it's all over YouTube, so you could pull it down on your own if you wanted to.

JBJ: In His Own Words

A great article in Sunday's Aussie papers:

A band is like a marriage or a family.
It was hard for us early on because, like in a new relationship, we were trying to figure each other out. You had to be careful about what you said or did, because sometimes people interpret things incorrectly. Everybody has their idiosyncrasies, but when you’ve been around each other for nearly three decades, as we have, you know what they are, so you don’t misinterpret them.

Richie [Sambora, Bon Jovi’s guitarist] and I are closer than brothers.
There have been periods of love and less than love between us, but I don’t think there was ever a period of disrespect. He’s had a few setbacks. He’s been through a difficult divorce [from Heather Locklear], he’s had other personal problems [with substance abuse], but he got through it. I’ve spent more of my life with him than I have without him. That’s a statement.

I was playing bars at 16.
Doing that gave me the opportunity to cut my chops. I also had the innocence and naïvety of youth to believe music was a real possibility. If you came from New Jersey and saw Bruce Springsteen do it, you thought maybe you could, too.

During Bon Jovi’s big success in the mid-’80s, I wasn’t sane.
When Slippery When Wet was big, I was doing too many things I shouldn’t have been. I wasn’t looking after myself. I was physically exhausted and worried about what came tomorrow, instead of enjoying today. If I were a manager, I’d tell a kid that had huge success to go to bed and call me in a year.

At that time, even my parents started asking me for advice.
I thought, no, no, I’m still a 25-year-old idiot – I don’t know anything. Suddenly, I’m signing cheques, thinking, where did that sort of money come from? I went from being a singer in a band to the head of a corporation.

Bon Jovi isn’t a democracy.
I make the decisions and that’s the way it is. I have to live with the good and bad of the outcome, because the decision lies with me. But I’m willing to accept that to have control. Looking back, there isn’t much I wouldn’t do again, except maybe some of the hairstyles, and a few of the outfits.

If you play a Bon Jovi song in a bar anywhere in the world, people will sing it.
That’s beyond comprehension to me. I was just a kid strumming a tennis racquet in my bedroom. Having songs that people know the world over is crazy. I’m very grateful and humbled by it.

I really don’t care about fame.
I was on the beach with my kids the other day, and nobody cared. You can be so full of yourself, you tell everyone what you do. Or, you can think, that’s just what I did last night; that’s my job.

I’m blessed with four healthy kids and a wife who tolerates me.
That, to me, is success. My wife knew me before I was ‘me’. Our [21-year] marriage is up and down, like any relationship. It is what it is. It isn’t perfect, but I got it right the first time. I don’t even make jokes about it any more. I’m lucky and I wouldn’t trade it.

My kids are aware of the Lindsay Lohans of the world.
They think that sort of life is crappy and don’t want anything to do with it. On the other hand, sometimes there are people in my house and the kids will say, “Wow, really? You?” But,
in general, we keep them out of the spotlight.

My eight-year-old son, Jake, has ‘it’.
He should be an actor. But I don’t push him; my kids have to find it on their own. My daughter, Stephanie, is 17 and she has the ability to be something, if she chooses. But growing up in the shadow of a famous parent isn’t fair. You have to want to do it.

If you love what you do, chances are, it’s going to resonate.
If you write a song that means something to somebody because they can relate to it, or it becomes a part of the patchwork of their life and marks a memory of a time and place when they heard it, that’s success. But the accomplishments, the number-ones, the sold-out arenas – it’s all horse sh*t. None of that matters.

I’m a romantic optimist.
I believe in the common good. I’m liberal-minded, open to co-existing and I don’t care if you’re gay or straight, black or white, Jewish, Muslim or Christian. Because I’ve been so blessed, I don’t see why others can’t achieve and be and do. Some people call that naïvety, others call it a promise of hope.

Private Met Gig

Jon, David, Richie, and Huey performed at the Met yesterday afternoon.
Thousands of Baron Capital investors crowded into the Metropolitan Opera House this afternoon. They sat through a panel discussion among Baron’s fund managers and listened to its billionaire founder Ron Baron tell some of his personal stories of his success. But most of them were likely waiting to find out who today’s secret performer was going to be. Already Diana Ross and John Cougar Mellencamp had performed during lunch.
You can read the rest of the article here.

There are some YouTube videos up from the event

Audio and Video downloads are here.

Anyone know the full set list? Any Baron Capital Investors come a-visitin' here in HathLand?

No Apologies

So.... Did you like it?  Hate it?

One person commented
"So far not impressed. I'm officially sick of overproduced social message songs. Grr. Jon's voice is perfect, I like the guitar solo. Can we just listen to that on continuous loop?"
If you didn't hear it yet, you can listen to it on bonjovi.com.

I gave it a listen, and my first instinct?

My 10-year-old will totally love it on first listen. It’s like all the other teeny-bopper songs he’s listening to now… Iyaz, Bieber, etc.  He'll be car-dancing on the way home from hockey practice tonight.

Don’t love it, but will LOVE it live. Very upbeat, great message, and will translate to the stage amazingly well. Not looking forward to the propaganda that will accompany it on the big screens, though.

It sounds WAY too over produced. Sounds like they’re trying to do techno, which really hurts my feelings, and it detracts from Jon's voice (which is spot-on) and the guitar solo which is actually a solo this time, right out of the gate.

I have to get it on the iPod and crank it with the sun roof open to see how it feels.

Right now, lukewarm at best.

Richie on NZ TV?

OK, so I totally missed out on letting you all know about this, because I chose to go to bed early, and didn't check my alerts beforehand:

Apparently, just a short time ago, an episode of WANNA-BEn aired (TV3, 10.00pm NZ time). In this episode, Hanson, Alice Cooper and Richie Sambora were on the "guest star" list.

Anyone out there in Kiwi-land watch this program earlier?

Update: Thanks, Jan, for the link to the photo!

David on CityScape, October 30

David will be on a local (to him) radio program next weekend:

WFUV-FM (90.7) will continue its public service campaign, "Strike a Chord," this fall with a series about music education in schools.

Through Nov. 15, the station will spotlight a range of non-profit organizations that work to strengthen and restore music education in schools throughout the metropolitan region.

As part of its mission with the series, WFUV is partnering with the Broadway musical "Memphis" to showcase the best music being performed in high schools.

The station is inviting high school vocal and instrumental groups to send short videos of themselves performing a song reflecting the musical heritage of Memphis, with the winning group receiving a block of tickets to see the play. Contest rules can be found at wfuv.org/memphis/ rules.

A special edition of "Cityscape," the station's public affairs program, on Oct. 30 will include interviews with two advocates for arts programs in schools: actress Carol Channing and Bon Jovi keyboard player David Bryan, who co-wrote the music for "Memphis."

The Cityscape program airs at 7:30am EDT.

If you're so inclined, you can stream the show online here.

Bon Jovi to perform at CNN Heroes tribute

Bon Jovi has joined the lineup for CNN Heroes, a two-hour celebrity-studded tribute to the top 10 CNN Heroes of 2010. Anderson Cooper is hosting the fourth annual show from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California.

The program, spotlighting everyday people who are changing the world will air at 8 p.m. ET/PT, and country duo Sugarland will also take the stage.

Hmm, do you suppose this means they'll sing "Who Says"? Or will each band be touting their respective new records with new music?

Greatest Hits Launch -- Letterman, Webcast Concert, and more!

From BonJovi.com (at least it was in my Google Reader; I can't seem to find it on the website):
(October 20, 2010 – New York, NY) Over 1 billion consumer impressions worldwide – encompassing social networks and traditional media – will support the November 9th release of Bon Jovi’s brand new GREATEST HITS compilation on Island Records, featuring new single, “What Do You Got?” - the fastest growing Hot AC single in Bon Jovi’s history!

The project is topped by several high-profile campaigns – ranging from the ongoing “It’s My Life Animoto Video Contest” at BonJovi.com/ItsMyLife; to the two-month Comcast takeover (reaching 26 million households); and the unprecedented 45 minute “Live on Letterman” webcast concert performance (presented by AT&T) on the release date, November 9th, in conjunction with the band’s two-song broadcast appearance on the show that same night.
Um, 45 minutes on Letterman on November 9th? with two songs?

Wanted Wednesday ~ JBJ 1997

Please rise, for the singing of our national anthem...

Ok, ok, Jon gets his equal time. Double in fact, since he IS the name on the band.

There isn't an intro song for this, but you can TELL from the guitar work it's Jon and Bobby -- it's the same notes as always, but somehow sounds a little different.

Bobby's "Wan-te-ed" and the harmonies aren't quite right (or maybe I'm just missin' Richie's voice), but still, the song is done well.

This first track is from 1997, from a set he did at the Strand in Rhode Island (my backyard).

You can download this track here.

The second one is from Mexico (with Bobby and Hugh), also in 1997:

You can download this track here.

Thanks to "joools" on YouTube, you can watch the video of this track.

I love the impish grin on his face when he's singing "seen a million faces". Almost like he wanted to sing something else in there -- something naughty (as he's wont to do when he's in different countries).

Thank You

To my Devotees:

I just want to take a moment to thank you for all the emails and DMs you send me with little bits of information for the blog. That you want to be able to share your bits of Jovi love with others, and think of ME to pass on the love...well, that just makes my heart all warm and gooey.

Thank you so much for all you do to help me keep the blog going!

Much love,

Calling All Londoners!

Or whoever gets reception of BBC Radio 2...

On Simon Mayo's program (5pm to 7pm local time) it's been reported there will be a "big Bon Jovi announcement" made next Monday during their airtime.

I would LOVE to know what's said! Can one of the lovely devotees out there, please check it out and report back in?

It could have to do with the Greatest Hits, maybe some sort of promo or live session? Maybe show announcements, a contest, could be ANYTHING!

Thanks, LazyRizzo for this one too!

RCR Richie Interview

Thanks to LazyRizzo for this drop today!

From YouTube: Red Carpet Roxy chats with Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora about his White Trash Beautiful clothing line, what he likes to see a woman wear, and worldwide The Circle Tour with Bon Jovi.

Richie Sighting

... well, not quite yet.

As per ExtraTV, the show will be taped (Monday-Friday) between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM PDT at The Grove, a hugely popular L.A. shopping and celebrity hot spot, with Mario talking to all the stars and interacting with fans. There will also be special musical guests and performances featured on The Grove stage.

Tuesday, Oct. 19: Richie Sambora and designer Nikki Lund (1:00 pm) and Hilary Duff (2:00 pm) are expected.

SO, anyone over in the area? Chug on over and see if you can't spot our favorite guitarist! And if you happen to get photos, please pass them along!

FD, thanks for the info!

People Magazine Article ~ Ava's Comments

Very cute -- here are some comments Ava made to People Magazine.
When Bon Jovi rocker Richie Sambora showcased the new collection for his fashion line White Trash Beautiful on Sunday, he had a fresh face on the runway: 13-year-old daughter Ava.

"My daughter’s beautiful, she’s gregarious, she’s funny, she’s smart. I’m beyond proud," raved Sambora to PEOPLE before the show.

Ava, who made her modeling debut for her father’s clothing line at L.A. Fashion Week last March, was equal parts anxious teen and old pro at Sunday’s show. “I’m still nervous I just know how to hide it,” she admitted. “It’s like I really hope I’m not gonna trip, but now I’m a little more comfortable with it.”

Changing into a dip-dyed lilac top, leather short-shorts and funky nude wedges for the presentation, the young model confidently strutted down the runway with mom Heather Locklear watching from the front row. But when she isn’t giving her dad a hand, Ava is just a regular teen who looks up to stars like Miley Cyrus.

“I really love Miley Cyrus,” she told PEOPLE. “It’s just everything about her—I would really love to act with her. She’s like my biggest role model–besides my dad.” And like most of her peers, she is not impervious to Bieber fever admitting, “I met him once at the Grammy’s and I was like about to cry. I love him so much.” So who does the budding model think is the sexiest man alive?

“My dad!” Ava joked. “Just kidding…Justin Beiber.”

Talk about a tease...

So I get this text from Twitter, and get all excited:
BonJovi: http://www.BonJovi.com got a new look! Check it out, does it make you excited for Greatest Hits??!!
I go and check it out, thinking the site's been redesigned, but nope, just a new background image.  Instead of The Circle cover, it's a really cool faux-leather print now.

The new site doesn't make me excited for the GH album, I'm excited for that on my own -- but just for getting the new music.  I'm a greedy devil for new music...

Richie & Nikki on Extra

"Extra" caught up with rocker-turned-clothing designer Richie Sambora and his partner Nikki Lund at their White Trash Beautiful fashion show to chat about their new designs.

Sambora's pretty daughter, Ava, 13, also showed up to support her dad, along with her mom, Richie's ex-wife Heather Locklear. "Not a lot of people have that creative touch my dad has," gushed the proud Ava. Watch all the raw moments!

Read more on Warner Bros' site.

Also, my dear FD has let me know that this (or something more interview-y) will be on Extra today.  If you're still home, scope it out and set your DVRs!!

Interview on Access Hollywood

Got $12,000.00 ?

I'm sure you have that in the couch cushions, right? As seen on ebay.

I'm selling my personal Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora Collection that I collect all over the world for years of my life.

All the official cds, very very hard to find items, boxes, singles, limited edition, ultra rare Japanese boxes, singles and 3"cd's.

All in good, excellent condition or new.

Very rare opportunity, around 400 rare cds and dvds.
I mean, this looks like an amazing collection, but really, $12k?  That's $30 per CD/DVD.  Seems a bit steep.

How 'bout listing them separately?
