Watch Rock in Rio LIVE!

It looks like we'll be able to watch a stream of the Rock in Rio festivities tonight! This website says Macaco will open on the World Stage at 2100 hours (local Madrid time) followed by Laziness, Bon Jovi, and Paul Van Dyk.

That says to me, that we can tune in! Holy VIDEO STREAM batman! I'm going to do my best to capture it; no promises, but I'm sure at least one or two of the Devotees are going to try, too.  Not sure what (if any) countries are blocked from this, but we'll find out!!

To find out what time that is in your area, consult the world clock.

"Live Action" video from Madrid

From the photo shoot this morning.

Thanks L for dropping me a line on this :)

I like how the guys all have their spots they need to stand in.  Jon comes out first, with David right behind, but he's quick to stand to Jon's left, because his right is Richie's spot :)

And there's another short video here (Thanks, Catte)

Jon Bon Jovi Works on his Legacy

Stadium openings, Super Bowl announcements, V-22 flyovers by the Marines - globally speaking, it's not a bad time to be Jon Bon Jovi.

And yet, as the journalists gather in New York to quiz, bask in and list the extended and most recent wins - the New Meadowlands Stadium gigs and the 12-night residency at the O2 Arena in London, where they've renamed June "Bon Jovi month" - it turns out there's a status greater than adulation, something rock-star wealth can't buy.

Is it true that Obama senior adviser David Axelrod had the lyrics to "Work for the Working Man" framed on his wall?

"Still does," Bon Jovi confirms.

"I'd been having these conversations throughout the last year and a half with various people in the administration, and before the record had come out, I told them about the song and burned a CD and took the lyrics in. And next thing I knew, they were framed."

Bigger than 120 million albums sold is having the ear of the president.

"I've been down to the White House since the administration has been in office four times. And been very involved with what I do philanthropically, with my foundation (JBJ Soul Foundation, helping the homeless) and helped them create this serve.gov initiative, where we had PSAs in the hallways of the venues to sign up to volunteer for whatever moves them."

Briefly, then, amid the hoopla surrounding all these career landmarks, we are acknowledging the larger truth: While you weren't looking, Bon Jovi became bigger than the game.

Studiedly shaggy of hair and gleaming of teeth, he says "Legacy is very important to me. That's what it's about at this point. We're certainly not the new guys in town, and this isn't a reunion tour, and it's not where-are-they-now and it's not a multiple-act package.

"This is a Bon Jovi show. Like it or not, we're one of the biggest bands in the world. I'd like to make sure the way we leave (our legacy) is timeless and classic and on point and true to what I set out to do."

Got a case of the nerves?

I don't know how I missed this one. This is "classic David" :)

He explained to New York Magazine how he deals with award-show jitters. This was just after the Drama Desk awards.

David Bryan, the Bon Jovi keyboardist and co-writer of Memphis, which won four awards, relied on necromancy to cool his heels. "We have to sacrifice a chicken, you know, and kill a frog," he said of his pre-awards-show rituals. Also helpful: a long, soothing walk from the nosebleeds. "I guess we forgot to send an e-mail or something," he said, "so I had the cheap seats; we’re all the way up in the back."

Can you see David as a Voodoo priest? I'm not sure I can, he's way too pale :) Hopefully Mr. Bryan will have better seats for the Tony Awards on June 13th. Hopefully too, his nerves will subside, or there will be a plague of dead frogs on the streets of NYC.

A Little More Rio Information

Courtesy of Bon Jovi Now & Forever, the "official Argentina Fan Club Site"

OK; a little more info on Rock in Rio

Bon Jovi is the 3rd band to go on; they start around 16:00 (Argentina time) and Jovi should be on around 20:30 (Argentina time).

I think Argentina is only 1 hour ahead of us on the East Coast, right?

That’s math I can handle :)

Jon, You're Our Superman

OK, so it's not terribly original, to say that to the man.

BUT, it may be a LITTLE original to have given him the underwear to prove it.

In one of our email typhoons, somewhere around Februaryish, we gals decided that Jon needed our autographs.  More specifically, he needed them on his underwear.

Now I know what you're thinking. You're probably thinking, "You crazy woman, Jon is in NO way gonna let you psychos anywhere NEAR his underwear."  Yeah, you're right.

So we bought him some.

Superman boxers to be exact.

We (well I, because I’m a geek) went to WalMart to purchase said pair of Superman boxers.  Funny thing, I had gone with my mom (because WalMart is one of our favorite places to pick up stuff for the kids) and I told her I was on a mission to find Superman boxers for the Bon Jovi concerts in NJ.  I told her how we were all going to sign them and see if we couldn't get them tossed up on stage.

We found the boxers, and Mom pulls out a 2XL pair.  "How 'bout these?" she asks, innocently.

Without thinking, I say, "No, we need mediums, because those are the right size."

After a moment of shocked silence she asks, "And just how do you know that?"

Luckily, she answered herself with a hand flap and a "never mind", then ruined it by adding, "a medium, just like your father."  EW, MOM!  I certainly don't need to know that, and I sure as hell don't want Daddy, Jon Bon Jovi, and underwear in my head together for ANY reason.

Anyway, the boxers made it to Willow's for the Philly gang to sign, and back to my place for the Mohegan crew.  We brought them to Meadowlands, and more specifically to Cheeseburger in Paradise, and whoever joined us there (and felt like it) added their Jane Hancocks.

Our brainstorm was to give them to Kiwi, who was in the pit "wicked close" for night 2, and she'd hum them up onto the stage.  In our discussions, we figured she'd either get arrested, or Jon would find the whole thing hilarious, hold up the boxers, and say something like, "Thanks, baby, but you KNOW I don't wear these things."

Unfortunately Security, as they are wont to be, were absolute bears, so Kiwi was out of luck.  She and Tara gave the boxers to Iris, who was doing the Lure party after the show, and thought she might be able to at least get them to Matt.

Long story short (TOO LATE!), the person heading the fan club trip asked those at the party if this was the best FC trip ever, she answered w/an unequivocal “NO!” and the FC guy and Matt both spent time with her getting her input (which I thought was staggering in and of itself).

As the night was dying down (4:30 a.m.) and they were all getting ready to leave the party, Iris remembered she had the boxers in her purse. She took Matt aside for a minute and told him that if he wanted her help with making the fan club trips better, he had to do her a favor.

His response? "Sure, anything".  (Matty, Matty, Matty, when will you learn NEVER to make a blind promise like that?)

She pulled the boxers out of her purse and basically told him that the boxers were signed by some very longtime die hard fans, that security wouldn't let us throw them on stage, and that they needed to get to Jon.

His first response was "you were going to throw BOXERS on stage? I've heard of thongs and bras but NEVER boxers".  Then it was "I can't believe you're making me carry around a pair of MEN's underwear to give to my brother. The things I won't do for this fan club."

There were more things he jokingly said that Iris couldn't remember but he thought the whole thing was hilarious. She then told him that she'd be back for another FC trip, and she WOULD find out if he gave them to Jon and if she found out he didn't she would tear his arm off and beat him to death with it (lol)

He bent over, kissed her on the cheek, held her hand and very seriously promised he would personally give the boxers to Jon.

His parting sentence was something like "oh man I'm gonna get crapped on for this...but I made you a promise and I will keep that promise".

We'll see.  Of course, not having anyone inside the Jovi camp (dammit) I can't know for sure, but being rose-colored-glasses kind of girl, I have to believe Matt at least did the "oh, by the way, some crazy chicks signed these for you" and flung them at Jon's head.

Hopefully, Jon got them, and he takes them with the spirit in which they were given.  And if we're really, really  supremely lucky, he's tucked them into the neck box of his Takamine's case, and is taking them on tour with him to remind himself of why he does this night after night.

~ Hath

Thanks Iris, for the first-hand account, and Killeen, for the photos. Matt, honey, if you know what's good for you, you gave those boxers to Jon. You don't want Iris ripping your arms off :)

Published Authors I Love: Cari Quinn

I know lots of great writers. I have lots of published authors I love. Where they intersect, well, it's a very small place (so far). Today's Published Authors I Love is Cari Quinn.

I met Cari through TaraLeigh (who will be in that small intersection soon, I just KNOW it) and a small writing group who came to be known as the WHORES. We WHORES had a goal. Write 1000 words a day, 6 days a week, on whatever story we were working on at the time. We sent emails to rest of the group with our word counts, excerpts, and general railing at the inhumanity of it all.

Cari shared her very first published work, Full Disclosure, before it was published, much to our delight. While I did not review this specific story, I loved it to pieces and still revisit it when I need something to help kick-start my writing when I just simply don't want to write another sex scene. This story, about a website I'd love to find in real life, called "Hunk du Jour" was a wicked fun romp through Naughtyville. Here's a summary, in case you're intrigued.
Thirty-eight-year-old divorcee Holly Burrows has had enough of battery-operated love. Prompted by an ad left at her law office, she investigates Hunk Du Jour, a website designed to foster ‘adult connections’. After weeks of sexy emails and phone calls with surf hunk Kent, she's ready to test their chemistry in person. But first she has to get through lunch with her colleague Alex, a man with a brain as agile as his body. When their consultation ends with a bang, she barely remembers the man she'd lined up for dessert. Now she thinks she's juggling two hot young guys. How can she choose between her two gorgeous cubs – and why do they remind her of each other?
Through the WHORES, and Cari's first book, I learned that she, Ms. Quinn, is not only a fantastic writer, she's a dirty, dirty girl.

That's why, dear Devotees, I think you're going to LOVE not only Full Disclosure, but also her newest soon-to-be-released e-book, Ex Appeal, which I've reviewed below:

Last week, I talked Cari into sending me her latest Hunk du Jour story, Ex Appeal.

In this story, we meet Jenny and Ty, a couple who’s together-life has gone from sizzle to fizzle. Jenny tries a variety of things to get Ty interested again, but when they fail, she decides to end their relationship.

Weeks later, deciding to “get back on the horse” she activates her Hunk du Jour account, looking for Mr. Right Now. Imagine her surprise to find her ex’s profile! Jenny decides then to show Ty that she can be what he wants – that she has to be, because he’s’ the only man for her.

Her quest to prove her love to Ty not with words, but with actions, leads them to a sex-filled date at a borrowed beach house. Sun, sand, surf and sex. What could be better? How ‘bout a little Tie Me Up?

Cari is a wonderful storyteller, and her characters all but pop off the page. Each chapter is more descriptive than the last, and her sex scenes simply scintillate. If you’re looking for a fun summer read, or something to freshen your own stale bedroom, give Ex Appeal a read!
I heartily recommend both of Cari's stories, and look forward to the third and (she threatens) final story in the Hunk du Jour series.  I do believe, my dear devotees, that you will LOVE these stories too!

The next of the "Published Authors I Love" that I'll tell you about will be my very good friend, fellow JoviWhore, and writing partner, Terri England.

Vintage Richie

OH how I wish I was more aware during the 90's. This is a performance/interview from when Undiscovered Soul was "just released". This is one of my favorite tracks from that record. The interview is from the same show (The Midday Show), and the part that squeezes my heart is when he's talking about how "the baby" (who at this time was 8 months old) is saying "da-da" (around 2:15). Richie is just so freaking adorable.

Here's the song performance ~ In It For Love

And the Interview *melt* By the way, I love how the house band is playing Prayer Muzak when Richie joins the hostess on stage.

Chris and Kelly

OK, I know, it's not Bon Jovi, but I believe I've mentioned a time or two about a crush I have on Chris Daughtry :)

What I haven't mentioned, is that I love Kelly Clarkson (not that way).  I've loved her since watching her cry her way through A Moment Like This, and jet off to do the late night talk show circuit.  I think she's got an amazing voice, and the fact that these two faves performed together this week is something I wanted to share with you.

Kelly joined Chris Daughtry on stage during Daughtry’s concert on Sunday night (May 30) at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.  The pair performed their own acoustic duet of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car.”  The concert raised money for Nashville flood relief, some tickets were sold at just $10 apiece!

Enjoy!

The Legend of the Stink Eye

I totally LOVE Glenn Orsin's column on Examiner.  Today, he write about "The Legend of the Bon Jovi stink eye".
Undoubtedly, we’ve all been on the business end of a stink eye; hell, we proudly chuck our very own when we’re cut off in traffic, a family member porks us off, or the kids are dancing a jig on the dinner table in some restaurant.

But what of the prized Jon Bon Jovi stink eye?

It is neither mirage or myth; and it's been spotted both in public and in private. It’s been known to make grown men cry, reduce roadies to blubbering pillars of salt, make women around the world quiver and shake at the sheer mention of it; and instills in his band mates a visual pummeling that reeks of disdain.

Perhaps the only way the look could be made worse is if Richie, Tico, David or Hugh were shirtless in front of Jon, wrists strung high to the stage rafters with log chain so that Jon could wield a six-foot bull whip on their naked, sweaty backs for the errs of their ways in hitting a wrong note, playing a wrong chord, being out of time, or just plain existing on the wrong damn day.

The full article is here.

The last quoted paragraph there.... I have to wonder, is Glenn a closet porn writer?

I have to question some of the images shown to highlight the Stink-Eye:

Others, I do not question at all :)

Jon Bon Jovi on fame, family and life on the road

Jon Bon Jovi, 48, was born in New Jersey. Since their 1984 debut album, 7800 Fahrenheit, his band, Bon Jovi, have sold 120 million albums and played live to 34 million people. He lives in New York with his wife of 21 years, Dorothea, and their four children
If I wasn’t a rock star, I’d be the ringmaster in a circus.
I hope I look as good as something between Prince William and Keith Richards.
In the real world I get up at 7 o’clock in the morning. On the road, it’s vampire hours: I go to bed at four in the morning and get up at noon. I bitch and moan about it until I’m out the door, and when I get to that first hotel room I’m like, OK, here we go again.
I live out of a bag. I come home and my closet looks like a gift.
I get depressed by short-sighted, slight-minded, pseudo-intellectuals.
Our fans are very loyal, but it’s not like we’re the Grateful Dead. Generations of people come to our shows.
I don’t know what perfect happiness is, but I think my life, my wife and four healthy kids is pretty darn good.
The secret of a happy marriage is leaving home a lot.
People write what they think they know [about me] because they’re just too lazy to look into it. They may misconceive what I do. What are you going to do?
I don’t get tired of singing Livin’ on a Prayer. Not when I see the jet with my name on it.
I’ve made the usual sacrifices for my career: sell soul, give away too much to too many… repeat.
The best book I’ve ever read is The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari. It gets to the core of what we’re doing here. I’m not really driven by possessions, and the nomadic lifestyle has something to do with that. You realise you can live out of a bag and the rest of the stuff is fun to play with, but not necessary.
Are my children embarrassed by me? Not if they want their share.
London in June is magical. I thought it’d be a blast to spend time there, family and friends could come over. That’s the idea anyway. We’ll see who actually shows up.
When you’re healthy you play great, and when you play great, everything’s fine.
We did American Idol last night. That’s not really work, it’s three and a half minutes. I can do a whole bunch of things for three and a half minutes and be good.
Don’t stay at the party too long. I mean that metaphorically. I’ll never be out there slogging the Livin’ on a Prayer tour. Just get out. Know when you’re on top.
Preparing for a tour is very physical, but mentally it’s like spending the night bar-hopping with old friends.
I don’t care what people write about me when they say very nice things.
I’ll spend the day before the first London show seeking forgiveness for the prior night’s sins. I’m doing that right now as well. It’s not like I sit in bed and go to sleep early.
I want the Beatles’ In My Life played at my funeral. You don’t want something upbeat. I’ll be dead, for God’s sake, I don’t want anyone else to be happy. I’m going to make ’em all pay for the bonus at the end, which is my estate. They’re going to have to suffer for hours. I want Catholic guilt and misery.

This was such a fun read, that I can ALMOST forgive the gaffe in the opening paragraph.

Do you see it?
Second sentence.
WHAT was the debut album? lol

The Bon Jovi Experience

To coincide with Bon Jovi’s 12 night residency at The O2 this summer, the British Music Experience is thrilled to announce that it will host an exclusive photography exhibition featuring never seen before images, personally curated by the band.

Throughout June, the British Music Experience – the national museum of popular music at The O2 – will be hosting this unique exhibition documenting life on the road for Bon Jovi, one of the world’s greatest bands.

The exhibition includes two floors of images, shot by band insider Phil Griffin who has enjoyed unparalleled access to the band over the last two years. All of the images have been chosen and put together by the band and feature shots from the first ever official Bon Jovi book ‘When We Were Beautiful’ as well as many previously unpublished and private photographs.

In addition to the exhibition, from 7th to 25th June, the British Music Experience will be showing teaser screenings of the Bon Jovi documentary, also titled ‘When We Were Beautiful’ and directed by Phil Griffin, which chronicles life on the road with the band and their 25 years together.

In a one-off Rock Photography and Filmography masterclass at the British Music Experience, date to be confirmed, Phil Griffin will be discussing his work with the band. Phil will also be sharing his experiences and talking through the images which make up the exhibition.

Paul Lilley, curator of the British Music Experience, said “We are glad to welcome Bon Jovi back to the British Music Experience. We’ve had a longstanding relationship with the band since we opened in 2009, hosting their secret gig for fans in November last year, and we are delighted to host the exhibition this June. ‘When We Were Beautiful’ is a must-see for Bon Jovi fans and British Music Experience visitors alike, offering an insight into life behind the scenes of one of the worlds greatest live bands."

Bon Jovi, this week launched their Opening Act at The O2 competition which already has received thousands of entrants. The band is looking to find unsigned UK bands to support them in front of sold out audiences during their mammoth June residency at The O2 arena.

Entrance to the ‘When We Were Beautiful’ exhibition is free for all fans attending the Bon Jovi concerts at The O2 on presentation of their ticket. Entrance to the museum is available for Bon Jovi ticket holders for the reduced rate of £5 (usual ticket price £15).

David on the Today Show

May 27th, the morning after a kick-ass show, David was in NYC at the Today Show with  Montego and Chad. Willow and I were going to go, but we were too wiped out, and by 4am, couldn't stomach the idea of getting on a train for the city (sorry, David.  We do love you dearly, though!)

To add insult to injury, and a few hours' sleep to our bodies, we were NOT awake for the live airing.

The cast of the hit Broadway musical MEMPHIS performed the number "Someday" live on Thursday, May 27th, in the 9am (EST) hour on NBC's "The Today Show." The appearance featured Tony-nominated stars Montego Glover and Chad Kimball as well as Tony-nominated composer and Bon Jovi founding member David Bryan. Click below to watch the spot!
