Venetian Show, Revisited

From the Venetian. Thanks, D, for the rest of the links!

Who Says You Can't Go Home (snip)
You Give Love a Bad Name
Wanted Dead or Alive
It's My Life(snip)
Prayer (snip)

I pulled them down in case you want to cap them, or merge the MP3s into a medley or make a ringtone or something. In any event, they're up in my MediaFire account.

Also there are a collection of photos that D pointed me to as well :) All in the 2MB range -- the full sizes of the ones I posted earlier this week (damn free Photobucket account shrinking them lol)

Enjoy!

Gotta Love These Things

The Honolulu Advertiser has one of those "how big a Jovi fan are you?" quizzes up. These always make me laugh with the things they dig up for the questions.

1. How did the band come to name itself Bon Jovi?
a. It's the name of the restaurant in New Jersey where the band did its first hometown gig.
b. It's derived from lead singer Jon Bon Jovi's actual last name, Bongiovi.
c. No one really knows how the band came to be called Bon Jovi, not even the band members.

2. Bon Jovi's best-selling album is:
a. "Slippery When Wet"
b. "Bon Jovi"
c. "New Jersey"

3. Bon Jovi's first No. 1 hit was:
a. "Livin' on a Prayer"
b. "You Give Love a Bad Name"
c. "Bad Medicine"

4. Finish this lyric from "I'll Be There For You": "I guess this time you're really leaving. I heard ________.
a. "... your suitcase say goodbye."
b. "... my sister made you cry."
c. "...you when you said goodbye."

5. True or false: Bon Jovi was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

6. Which of the following is not true of lead singer Jon Bon Jovi?
a. He is the owner of the Philadelphia Soul arena football team.
b. His mother is a former U.S. Marine, as well as a former Playboy bunny.
c. He didn't want to call the band Bon Jovi, saying that the name sounded like a flavor of French ice cream.

7. The first song Jon Bon Jovi ever recorded was:
a. A cover of Ben E. King's classic "Stand By Me."
b. The single, "Runaway."
c. "R2D2 We Wish You a Merry Christmas" on musician Meco's "Christmas in the Stars: The Star Wars Christmas Album."

8. True or false: "Wanted Dead or Alive" is known as the Bon Jovi anthem.

9. Only one member of Bon Jovi has left the band since it formed in 1983. Which member is no longer with the band?
a. Tico Torres
b. David Bryan
c. Alec John Such

10. What notable Bon Jovi event took place in 1992, making headline news on CNN?
a. The band was featured in a televised concert on "MTV Unplugged."
b. Jon Bon Jovi cut his hair.
c. MTV refused to air the "Bed of Roses" video, claiming it was too risque for the network.

Of course, half the fun is looking at how they describe you, based on your score:

You got all 10 answers right: You're a super fan. You cried when Jon Bon Jovi cut his hair and you vacation in New Jersey just to feel close to the guys.

You got at least seven answers right: You know all the words to the big hits, but your pulse doesn't race at the mere sound of Jon and Richie making beautiful harmonies together.

You got at least four answers right: You probably know the chorus to "Livin' on a Prayer," but you also think Bon Jovi sang "Pour Some Sugar on Me."

You got fewer than three answers right: You're probably listening to Taylor Swift right now.

I was reading along, mentally saying "blah, blah, blah" until I burst out laughing at #10. TOTALLY forgot about that. What a slow news day, eh?

That made me remember when Barbara Walters interviewed Jon Bon Jovi in 1998 (this I remember. The CNN? Didn't see it first-hand) and asked him about it:

BW: Let’s talk about your hair.
JBJ: Okay…
BW: Do you feel that the hair gets more attention than the music and the acting?
JBJ: It did! But I don’t think it’s such a big deal anymore. I do remember, though, six years ago when I cut it short it was on CNN. I couldn’t believe it!

I couldn't find anyone who'd had the foresight to record (on VHS most likely) CNN that day, transfer it to DVD, and upload it to YouTube. Not that I looked or anything lol.

Oh, and in case you want them, the answers?
1) b; 2) a; 3) b; 4) a; 5) False; 6) c; 7) c; 8) True; 9) c; 10) b

Interview with Teek and Rich

Transcript of a telephone conference that Richie Sambora and Tico Torres of Bon Jovi conducted with the national media on Groundhog's Day to promo The Circle World Tour is available here.

Excerpt:
Alan Sculley: A follow up to something you guys talked about a little bit early on in the interview here, where you talked about the need to continually evolve musically and lyrically, you know. And this album again is part of that process.

Now to me, this album also sounds very much like a classic Bon Jovi album. I feel like in a lot of ways you went back on a number of songs to your core strength stylistically.

And so I’m curious in what ways you feel, you know, you’ve kind of moved forward, especially musically. You kind of touched on the lyrical, the topical side earlier. But I’m just curious what you think that you’re doing musically that’s really is kind of covering new ground for you.

Richie Sambora: Well I mean right off the bat, obviously I’m going to touch on the lyrical content of what the songs are. I think that’s obviously growing and I think our lyrical prowess is getting more and more grown up, and more and more kind of plugged into what’s happening in the world today.

So I think that’s one of the ways we’ve done stuff on this album. We’ve also experimented with a lot of new sounds sonically. A lot of stuff that you think might be kind of synthesized is in there, or a lot of guitars that are just layered with different sounds and pedals and different things like that.

So we’re actually moving in different sonic territory I think for Bon Jovi than I think we’ve ever done before also. And songs like When We were Beautiful and Broken PromiseLand and things like that. There’s all these different sounds that are coming in that we’ve never used before either, and different experimentations in that particular way also.

I mean there’s also there’s just the constant kind of flow of evolution. You know, it’s not even conscious half the time. It’s just - we’re just growing as a band.

Tico Torres: Yes, even rhythmically. Most of the songs have a palm energy to it and none of the records have had that in the past, which is a totally different way of approaching the songs. So if you listen back you’ll see the difference.

It's a great read. The guys seemed relaxed, and talked quite a bit. Would LOVE to hear the audio from this teleconference, and have asked on the LVM site about it. Will let you know :)

Interview with Richie

source

Thanks, H, for the find, and I will definitely be checking back for more! Anyone able to get their hands on an "extra" hard copy? *drool, drool*

The Star-Bulletin spoke with Sambora last week via telephone from Los Angeles, shortly after the guitarist had finished rehearsing for the band’s upcoming shows on Oahu.

QUESTION: Is Bon Jovi ready to get back out on the road?

ANSWER: Absolutely, man. We’re very excited about this record, and obviously everyone else is.

The tour is going unbelievable, selling out everywhere. Big places, like three nights at Giants Stadium, sold out in, like, two days, so we’re thinking about adding four and five. And Chicago sold out really quick... and Boston sold out quick, so we’ll probably add (shows) there.

I don’t know about your dance card, but mine is full until August of 2011. My daily planner is the size of a Bible, man! And it’s only gonna grow.

People are asking us to play some bizarre places.

Q: Is there anywhere Bon Jovi hasn’t visited yet?

A: Yeah, there are a couple places we wish we could play. Like in Israel (or) Egypt, some of those places where it’s too dangerous to go. We tried a lot of times and had a couple of offers to play places like that.

Q: So the band is a well-oiled machine when it comes to touring?

A: We manage ourselves, basically. We have a manager who does the record side of things, but overall, you know, we kind of rule the roost. We know what to do, and we hire the right people to do the right things. We’ve been doing this for so long.

But the best part of it is obviously the performing part. Jon is an amazing front man. Every night I walk on stage with him and I just go, “Wow, this guy is just amazing!”

He can make a place with 70,000 people feel intimate. It’s a very special thing. There’s not many people who know how to do that.

Pick up a copy of HILife in Friday’s Honolulu Star-Bulletin to read the rest of this story. Check back here as well for an unabridged version of Jason Genegabus’ interview with Richie Sambora.

Um, excuse me, I saw that. Probably adding shows in Boston? Thought you could sneak that by me? Holy Hannah, YES PLEASE!!!

Jon and Dorothea in Soho

Yes, the papps were stalking again, and we get to reap the benefits. Thanks Catte and Tresca for sending these goodies my way :)

Some with watermarks, some without (may even be the same pic twice; I didn't sort through them). Looks like it was MFC in NYC yesterday (that's code for mighty-freaking-cold) but look at Jon, being Dorothea's Sherpa like a good boy.

Post Grammy Remarks

Richie Sambora was speaking after the Grammy Award show about the tour, the Grammy performance and confirms that the band's Greatest Hits Vol.2 record is slated for release in Christmas 2010.

The guitarist says, "we are prepared for the tour" and commented on the a medley they played during this year's broadcast.  "Jon and I [also] wanted to sing Who Says You Can't go Home, because when we got the Grammy for it, we wanted to sing this song and [the producers] did not let us."

On the fans' vote for Prayer, he said: "It was exciting because until the last minute we didn't know what song we had to play."

Regarding the tour, he said they have prepared two types of stage sets, different for stadiums and enclosures. "The stage will have 10 LED screens, 5 of which will move with articulated arms with high definition displays. The scene is like a half circle and the other half will be a VIP section ... We have some robots that actually move the television screens around the stage. It will be spectacular. "

Finally he said that "The Greatest Hits, we'll leave for Christmas 2010."

Huh.  I'm still waiting for my MSG DVD.  I'll believe Christmas 2010 when I see it.

PS: Forgive my translation.  I pulled this story from one of the Spanish sites I read, and my skills are a bit rusty :)

Superman Tonight ~ Premiere on Vevo

source

The video for “Superman Tonight,” Bon Jovi's latest single from the Circle, will premiere at on VEVO on Wednesday, February 3rd, prior to the clip’s broadcast premiere on VH1 Saturday, February 6th.

“Superman Tonight” is the latest single from THE CIRCLE, Bon Jovi’s 11th studio album (released November 10th).

The "press release" calls the video show-stopping and the single "explosive". Not sure those are the right adjectives, but it is my second favorite track on the record, and the video was interesting.

Grammys (III)

Found a couple of short vids on YouTube of Jon and his girls at the Grammy's.

Slippery Anyone?

According to this article, when asked about the Circle Tour's set list, Richie said, “The repertoire is going to be vast. We’re going to go back and play some stuff we haven’t played in 20 years – like off of the first two albums.”

Sambora also hinted the band may play a couple of their classic albums in their entirety in some markets. And from the sounds of it, those classic songs will be enhanced by some seriously seriously high-tech props. "We have these robots that actually move the video screen around the stage," he said.

Really?  Robots?  Doesn't sound like our guys.  Though Jon does love his toys...

Well, that'll be a hoot-and-a-half...wonder if they'll dress the robots up in tight leather pants, and give them some of Richie's hats to wear :)

But what really got me in this interview was playing some of the albums in their entirety.

Good lord; to hear Slippery or New Jersey or *gasp* These Days LIVE in their entirety?  Holy hell, those shows would be hard to beat.

So guys, hey, I think that the Meadowlands shows would be PERFECT to do this.... Say, the first night?  *hint*hint*

Oh, and good luck with the robots.  Don't give Obie the remote; he's likely to make them goose you.

Adding Two Shows to Meadowlands

source

Bon Jovi is getting ready to announce two more Jersey tour dates, adding two gigs to the back end of the group's stadium-christening three-show run at New Meadowlands Stadium this spring.

"We've sold out the three nights at [New Meadowlands Stadium] and I think we're putting up four and five next week," Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora said on a conference call with reporters Tuesday afternoon. "I think Kid Rock is going to be accompanying us for Nights 4 and 5 at [New Meadowlands] Stadium, which should be a great show for people."

The band is scheduled to be the first musical act to play the new stadium, with shows slated for May 26, 27 and 29.

Love Kid Rock! But alas, my Jovi budget for 2010 (as well as the limits of my husband's patience) have already been stretched.

No word yet on when tickets go on sale, but keep checking with bonjovi.com.
