Superman Tonight ~ UK Release Jan 25

I'd love to know what the bonus tracks are :) Are they cuts from the BBC-2 Radio program? Someone will have to let me know, yeah?

Rock in Rio, June 4

Translated (roughly) from this site.

Bon Jovi will be the closing act at the World Stage on June 4, the first day of the Rock in Rio-Madrid music festival.

Bon Jovi is currently working on the planned tour following the release of his latest album Circle, which will take more than 30 countries from February.

The band, who rose to fame in the '80s and has become an icon of rock in the world, has sold over 100 million records and is credited with 11 gold records and 33 platinum.

Rock in Rio-Madrid is particularly thrilled with this performance, because the group is an old friend of the festival.

I wonder if the videos from this show will be as hot as Rio '90? Lord help us all...

Or, God forbid, like Sao Paulo...

Gah!

Inside The Circle

Thanks, H, for passing these along. They look like they could be from Backstage, but they could be from some "public" promos as well; I don't know. I do know that the videos are up on YouTube, and I didn't put them there, and neither did H, so I consider them fair game.

UPDATE Jan 20: Since posting, Vevo has decided to block access in the US to these videos. Not sure what countries can see them now, but thankfully, I was able to grab them before the curtain came down. At the end of the post, there's a link to download the videos and MP3s. If you're in a country that can see the vids, I'd be interested to know which ones! Leave a comment or drop me an email :)

They're not ordered or anything, so I have no idea if they're supposed to be one interview all chopped up, or if they were intended to be standalone little blurbs. Given the way each starts, I tend to believe the latter.

In any event, here they are.

And in case you want them for your very own, here they are again, on my MediaFire.

I've also included a few of my favorite stills :)

JonBon Article in Reader's Digest

You can read the full interview here.  Here are some excerpts:

It’s been nearly three decades since Runaway kicked off his career, but New Jersey born singer Jon Bon Jovi still has that boyish grin that broke so many girls’ hearts around the globe. Nevertheless, talking to Reader’s Digest, the father of four reveals that he has outlived the light-hearted dude in the spandex trousers a long time ago. And while he still knows how to rock the masses, the 47-year-old (*March 2, 1962) definitely cares about what’s going on outside the limelight.

Reader’s Digest: You were supposed to take things slow in 2009. Why do we now have The Circle, a complete new album?
Jon Bon Jovi: Because I’m a liar (laughing). But that’s right. The intention this year was to do only two or three songs for a Greatest Hits album. But then came October 2008, the economies of the world changed and a new president was elected in the U.S. in November. So there was a lot of subject matter and we started writing up a firestorm. Before you knew it, not only did we have the songs for the Greatest Hits but we had a heck of an album.

RD: The sound is much different from what you have put out in the last 20 years. There are lots of sonic textures that could be off a Coldplay album.
JBJ: Yet there are the monster anthems, you know, like We Weren’t Born To Follow - if that’s not us, nothing is. It’s a rock album, no question about that, but it also says something: it’s a simpler time where what matters is no longer "bigger, better" and "me, me, me". After eight years of Bush, America finally believes in change again and is ready for a new way of thinking with a new president.

RD: What is your new single, We Weren’t Born To Follow about?
JBJ: It deals with events like the re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Iran. It’s meant to be an empowerment song for people who are committed. People like the young Iranian demonstrator Neda who (in June 2009) gave her life for her conviction. She was a leader, not a follower.

A good, quick read, and bound to make you smile :)

Do ya live in Hawaii, and play in a band?

...then boy do I have news for you! There is a contest (much like the one that ran during the HAND tour; the Have a Nice Gig promotion -- remember that?) for local bands to open for Bon Jovi next month, when they play in Hawaii.

The "Opening Act Contest" is open to all bands in Hawaii. To enter, each band must submit a bio describing the band and their music, along with a CD containing one song no longer than three minutes, and their contact information (name, address, phone number and email) to:

Tom Moffatt Productions
1232 Waimanu Street, Penthouse
Honolulu, HI 96814.

The deadline for receiving submissions is Monday, January 25, 2010.

From the pool of entries, 20 semi-finalists will be selected to send in a video (via YouTube link) for review by a "blue ribbon panel" of local celebrity judges. The top five finalists will be chosen from the 20 semi-finalists, and will have a clip of their video featured on KHON-TV’s "Wake Up 2Day" morning show during the week of February 1, 2009.

On Monday, February 8, 2010, the top five band finalists will be featured live in-studio as part of KHON-TV’s "Wake Up 2Day" show, where the two winners will be announced. A clip of the two winning bands’ videos will be shared on the air, and both bands will be interviewed.
What a phenomenal opportunity for a couple of local bands to get a taste of the "big time".

Good luck to any/all who enter!

Drive with JonBon

Thanks, G, for dropping this in my inbox! An 8-part video (downloaded from YT) with JonBon driving around, talking about the old neighborhood.

Not sure where this was from, but the YouTube poster did say he cut out the music before posting. Can someone tell me what this was from?

Downloads are here (video and MP3).

New Single from The Circle

Superman Tonight is being released in Germany on January 22.

Lee over at Blame it on the Love reports that the tracks on the single will be:

Superman Tonight (album version)
We Weren't Born to Follow (live from BBC Radio Theatre)
Superman Tonight (live from BBC Radio Theatre)
Livin' on a Prayer (live from BBC Radio Theatre)

Not that I know anything about the music biz, but isn't this a long time between singles?  I mean, most of the heavy promotions are done (at least here in the US) the whole NBC thing is over, and the tour is starting in less than a month.  I would have thought that this single would have been released far earlier.

Of course, I thought the MSG DVD would have taken advantage of Christmas-time sales, but hey, just reinforcing that I don't know much about the music business.  Of COURSE it's far better to wait until after the tour starts (still can't find it on Amazon.com in the US) and after everyone's already spent all their money.  It would have been STUPID to release it say, oh, the week after Thanksgiving, and have people purchase it for Christmas presents, even to themselves.  Yep.  Dumb.

Superman Tonight ~ This Morning, Jan 5

The audio and video don't quite match up, but I love this song, so had to post.

I've downloaded the video and ripped the MP3 from this (did I say I love this song?) and they're up on the MediaFire.
