Jon the Restaurateur

The Blue Parrot is set to reopen! The Tex-Mex joint in East Hampton, will reopen in May after being dark for two years. Ronald Perelman, Jon Bon Jovi and art dealer Larry Gagosian, who all own houses in the area, bought the lease earlier this year from Lee Bieler, the Porsche-driving surfer/actor who owned the restaurant for 25 years before moving to Hawaii. "It'll have the same old honky-tonk vibe," said a source who loved the boite's potent margaritas and karaoke nights. "They won't modernize or go trendy." Perelman, who owns Revlon and Panavision, is also an investor in Graydon Carter's Monkey Bar.

This place is about a 10 minute walk from my inlaws' place.

And I do love margaritas....

Goodbye, Toby

I know it's not Jovi related, well it sorta is I guess, but my dear friend Jovi'sWillow lost her precious pup Toby in the wee hours this morning.

He had ruptured a disc in his neck that controlled his spinal cord and he could no longer breathe. Toby was our mascot at Fictionista Weekend, and he was wonderfully sweet, loved to cuddle, and was fun to watch chasing birds on the beach.

In the course of your busy day today, please take a moment to stop and send your thoughts (or texts or emails) to Willow. If you don't have her information, send them to me and I'll make sure she gets them.

Thanks, Rike (I think)

Rike posted this over on my favorite board :) It is hysterical, creepy, and a wee bit disconcerting all at the same time.

Mostly creepy.

And hysterical.

The theme of the Tico Torres Children Foundation's gala: 1950s prom night!

Emceed by Rescue Me's Jack Ryan and KOOL-105.5 FM morning d.j. team Mo and Sally, the wingding and Monday's golf tournament raised a yet-to-be-tallied loot for autistic and cancer-afflicted kids.

Toxie Opening Night Last Night

So, the Times didn't like the show, but they did like the actors. BUT, from what I've read from reviews from actual theatergoers, the show is funny and wildly entertaining. So what if the lyrics are crude? So what if it isn't a pop-rock musical masterpiece? Is it entertaining? Yes? Then they've done their job.

I say pffft! to the Times and rock on, Toxie!

PS: I found a site that gathered the reviews from the places that matter. The grades given by these critics average out to a 'B'.

BJ Documentary at Tribeca

When We Were Beautiful

The New York festival will unspool what is described as a work-in-progress documentary about Jon Bon Jovi.

Phil Griffin directed and @radical.media produced the previously unknown pic, titled "When We Were Beautiful," which follows the musician and his band on their 2008 Lost Highway tour.

The movie will screen as the fest's centerpiece presentation on April 29, with another pair of screenings scheduled over the following three days.

BSWJBJ is having a contest to win free passes to the screening, but you must be an active member to be eligible.

That last line is interesting. Do you think with JazzFest that weekend as well that, Jon will be there in person or will he send someone to accept on his behalf? Hmmmm sounds like a question for Obie! (I already asked, let's see if he answers me or someone else who I'm sure asked lol)

Cease and Desist Order

An LA-based all-girl Bon Jovi tribute band received a letter from the law firm Blakely Sokoloff Taylor & Zafman regarding the use of "Jovi" in their group's name, and the heart-and-dagger logo on their website. It reportedly states, in part:
“It has recently come to our attention that your band is using the mark and name BLONDE JOVI in connection with live musical performances; more specifically, a Bon Jovi tribute band.

Our investigation also uncovered that you are using BJP’s “Heart and Dagger” Logo trademark prominently on your website. Unfortunately, and despite the fact that our client appreciates the reverence that your band pays tribute to Bon Jovi, as a tribute band, our client nevertheless is charged with the duty of enforcing its trademark rights.

In this regard, BJP cannot allow your band to use the mark and name BLONDE JOVI (or any other BJP trademarks), as such use creates a likelihood of confusion with our client, and capitalizes on the goodwill and reputation of its well-known marks.

In view of the above, we demand, on behalf of our client, that you and your band immediately (i) cease and desist any and all further use of the mark and name BLONDE JOVI, or any other mark or name similar to our client’s BON JOVI mark, in any manner.

source

Now, I'm sure this is going to get some attention, sort of like the guy who sued Bon Jovi for $400m. The article writer gets all up in arms over this. I agree that most likely a group of women is not going to ever EVER get confused for our guys, but still, I would guess that this a boilerplate cease-and-desist letter, and the lawyers just filled in the blanks. Also, I assume that the tribute band must be doing well to garner such attention, yes?

Their website (blondejovi.com) has been taken down (I checked). But, I think this was recent, because on their myspace page, they posted a blog entry just yesterday about their name change to Blonde Jersey.

And, they are still using a modified heart-and-dagger, but I think it's different enough from the original that it shouldn't matter.

So, what do you think about the letter?

Are the lawyers just doing their job, or is Jon the devil for picking on these girls?
