An Evening With David Bryan

Remember the interview with David for EMP/SFM? You can stream/download it here.

I tried to upload it to my SkyDrive, but it's too big. If you have issues with the link I can try to split up the interview into sections and upload them...

Thanks for your patience with my stories...

... I've been going through a trying family health crisis, and writing sexy stories is next to the last thing on my mind.  I promise I'll get back to them, and possibly soon, but I don't want to promise a timeframe for them.  Thanks for your continued understanding and thoughts and prayers.  They really do help.

Richie Sambora Wants To Be My Friend

lol

So I'm on Facebook (you should come by and say 'hi'). This morning, I get an email from the bots over there:
Richie added you as a friend on Facebook. We need to confirm that you know Richie in order for you to be friends on Facebook.
After I finished laughing, and forwarded it on to my good friend Willow, who I know could always use a laugh, I thought on it. Do any of us really "know" these guys? I'm sure the answer for a few of you anonymous readers out there is "yup", and that's great. I mean, I know these guys have lots of friends and acquaintances, and business associates, but I mean us fans: the nameless, faceless hordes.

So to my NFH readers, I'm sure some of you are nodding effusively and saying "hell YEAH I know them" -- you only THINK you know them. Sure you know their vitals, some details about their families, friends and pets. You know how they take their coffee, or wine or drink of choice. You know things that make them happy, what pisses them off.

But do you really KNOW them.

Do you know how they react to a sappy Hallmark commercial at the end of a tough day?

Do you know how many times they stop to thank whatever God it is they pray to?

Do you know of their (non-paparazzi'd) struggles and how they deal with them?

Really, when you stop and think about it, we know WAY too much about these people, but we don't know them at all. I mean, for me, if I look at some of my IRL friends, I have no idea how they take their coffee. Or if they even drink it.

Anyway, then my brain started to hurt, and I felt all shallow and so switched gears to think about how I was going to respond to "Richie" and his friend request.

Do I really believe that this is our Richie on Facebook? Absolutely not -- I'm not delusional. Psycho? Hell yeah. Delusional? No.

Is that going to stop me from writing on his wall and inviting him to taste my porn and tell me if I have his technique right?

Nope :)

Bon Jovi #20 on VH1's top 100 Hard Rock Songs

Really? Hard rock? REALLY? They beat out Sabbath's "Heaven and Hell"!?!

Though, I suppose since Journey showed up on the list (#80, Any Way You Want It) -- and don't get me started on that -- I guess it's OK. But I can't get over some of the other songs The Jovi Machine beat out:

#41 Quiet Riot "Cum On Feel The Noize"
#31 AC/DC "Dirty Deeds Done Dirty Cheap"
#26 Skynard "Free Bird"
#23 Ozzy (They beat out OZZY!!) "Crazy Train"

Guess that just goes to show you -- show me a poll of which Bon Jovi is a part, and I'll show you thousands of fans who will vote for them, no matter what it's for.

Hard rock. Huh, maybe I don't really have a good appreciation of what hard rock is. For me, hard rock is one step below metal. A tiny baby step below. Songs like Boston's "More Than A Feeling" or Poison's "Talk Dirty To Me" are great rock songs, but IMO not hard rock. Pop rock maybe or glam rock, but hard rock?

You can't head-bang to BOC's "Don't Fear The Reaper", but that is one hell of a rock song. I think head banging is one of the definitive characteristics of hard rock. At least it was where I grew up.

Sheesh.

OK, I know it's from Star Magazine...

... but they do ask a good question.

Richie and Heather looked mighty cozy for a divorced couple during daughter Ava's soccer game on Jan. 6.

After arriving together in her car, Heather and the rocker got touchy-feely as they sat side by side on a bench.

"At one point, she gave him a neck massage," an eyewitness tells Star.

Pals say the couple have grown closer in the past year.

"They still care about each other and are flirting with the possibility of getting back together," a friend tells Star.

Meanwhile, Heather and fiancé Jack Wagner are having major problems, says another source. "It looks like they will never make it to the chapel."

Do you think Heather and Richie should try, try again? Think she should stick with Jack?

Who do you think is "right" for Heather? Richie or Jack? Or neither, if you think she's still picking men who are bad for her.

Not that she gives a rat's ass what we think, but just for the sake of conversation...

source

Personally, I liked Heather and Richie together. They made a nice-looking couple, and you could (and still can) tell that they're utterly devoted to their daughter. Now that the nastiness with DR is behind them, maybe a second chance could work. I'm just sayin'...

The Rider

She stood shivering, cursing the delay. The two trains before hers had broken down somewhere along the line, so there were hundreds of people waiting anxiously, impatiently, for this train.

If it ever came.

People were starting to feel the strain of the cold, dark Boston morning. Instead of tired smiles and silent toasts with their Starbucks, there was grumbling, jostling, and a general sense of unease.

Finally, headlights could be seen in the distance. A collective contented sigh rose from the platform as the familiar rumble of a million-pound locomotove sounded. The whistle blew a lonely, forlorn sound, and as the train approached, the contented sigh turned to one of frustration.

The train was already full.

When it screeched to a halt, and the doors opened, the woman got swept along with the crowd, and tried to cram in. She made it, but got pushed hard from behind and wound up in the arms of a stranger...

No, this isn't the start of another fan fiction story (I have 6 current ones; I can't possibly start another yet). This was my morning. And the stranger, rather than being a mildly tolerant Richie, was a bitter man who unceremoniously shoved me back into the jostling crowd with a "Watch it, bitch." Nice. I accidentally-on-purpose stomped his loafer with my size-10 shit-kicker boot. Oops.

Ah well, at least it isn't Monday. If my week were just starting out like this, I might have actually murdered somebody.

Brace yourselves...I found the montage

Here it is. The 'Wanted Dead or Alive' montage from American Idol. I cringed, but couldn't look away. Couldn't click the little 'x'.

There's also a, erm, fun? version of Prayer from Randy Madden. That can be found here.

Sorry to do this to you, gentle readers, but I've had a shit-bag morning so far, and I want to share. :)

New Stories in the Directory: January 14th

New Stories in the Fan Fic Directory!

These stories feature Jon and are by a new author called Lisa:

Back In New Jersey
Bed of Roses

This one isn't new (it's about 10 chapters in) but I had never added it to the directory (SORRY SoulGirl!!) It's another facet of Jon and Lily.

Fire and Ice

Ditto for you, Bay! Sorry I forgot to add you when I started reading...
Light a Candle...Warm a Heart (featuring David)

If You Watched American Idol...

... you already know about the butchering of Bon Jovi's Wanted. I haven't found the YouTube of the montage, but I'm sure it'll be out there soon *shudder*. It's like a horrible car accident. You can't look away from the twisted wreckage of the car, or the slight red tint on the windshield, but you want to. Same thing.

In case you need to get that OUT of your head, I offer you this...

Don't tell me I don't love you :)

UK Author with new book on Bon Jovi

St. Helens-born author Neil Daniels has written acclaimed biographies of Judas Priest and Robert Plant and early this year his next two books will be published, featuring the early years of Judas with founder Al Atkins plus an A-Z encyclopaedia of Bon Jovi.

Neil (27) who has a degree in Film Studies started writing for fanzines and ezines after university for a couple of years before launching into his writing career.

He told the [St. Helen's] Star: “I had an idea for a book on Judas Priest about the time they reformed because there had never been one on them for years and after months of talks with various publishers Omnibus Press agreed that there was a gap in the market for such a book. And ‘Defenders Of The Faith: The Story Of Judas Priest’ was released in hardback in 2007 to (mostly) excellent reviews.”

And the book is proving a worldwide winner with Bulgarian, Polish and German translations due later this year.

He continued: "Following that my fifth book is an A-Z history of Bon Jovi, who are a world away from Brummie rock singers. Surprisingly there really isn’t anything about Bon Jovi’s music in the shops and online apart from a bio of Jon which is more about him as a celebrity than a musician."

"This is a book about their music as well as the solo careers of each member and basically anything relating to the band and main man JBJ." It will be published in May 2009 by Chrome Dreams.

Hmmmm.... it's coming out in May. Could it be a great summer read? Or will it be the same old rehashing we see in every "unauthorized" biography type book that comes around. I have to say though, the photo they chose for cover art is fun. I mean, look at Jon's expression. It's like "Really? You're serious?" lmao

5 Minute Chocolate Mug Cake

Queenie dropped this in my inbox this morning. I'm pretty sure I've found my new favorite dessert :) even though it is the most dangerous dessert in the world.

4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil ** I'd use melted butter instead
3 tablespoons chocolate chips
A small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.

Pour in the milk and oil (or butter) and mix well.

Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.

The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!

Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.

EAT! ** (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world?

Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

Thank you, Queenie!

For My Job-Hunting Friends...

SYDNEY (AFP) – An Australian state is offering internationally what it calls "the best job in the world" -- earning a top salary for lazing around a beautiful tropical island for six months.

The job pays 150,000 Australian dollars (105,000 US dollars) and includes free airfare from the winner's home country to Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland's state government announced on Tuesday.

In return, the "island caretaker" will be expected to stroll the white sands, snorkel the reef, take care of "a few minor tasks" -- and report to a global audience via weekly blogs, photo diaries and video updates.

The successful applicant, who will stay rent-free in a three-bedroom beach home complete with plunge pool and golf buggy, must be a good swimmer, excellent communicator and be able to speak and write English.

"They'll also have to talk to media from time to time about what they're doing so they can't be too shy and they'll have to love the sea, the sun, the outdoors," said acting state Premier Paul Lucas.

You can find the full article, along with a link to the application site, here.

A New Bon Jovi Quiz

OK, color me a cynic, but I thought this was freaking hysterical.

Bon Jovi Only - Rock Stars Who Thought They Could Act Special Edition

In this special edition of the Rock Stars Who Thought They Could Act quiz series, we look at one of the best and biggest rock bands in the world (well at least they were in the 80s and early 90s) - Bon Jovi. Since they, well Jon in particular have now appeared so many times on the screen it seemed appropriate to devote a whole quiz to these boys. So this quiz looks at the movies and TV shows these band members have appeared in as well as to make it a bit more interesting, the popular sitcoms who have culturally referenced the band or lead singer Jon. This quiz was created in Jan 2009 so obviously is only current up to then, if you are doing it in 2019 maybe some things have changed. Enjoy!

I haven't stopped laughing. Give it a go!

Second New Story Added To Directory

This is one helluva Monday for new fan fics!

This one comes from a brand-new author: CelticCross.
Her story is called In It For Love, and is a Richie story. Here's the tagline: Richie messes up big time and this time Jon can't help him out. Enter a 911 operator who maybe what Richie is looking for.

I read the first chapter, and had a "holy crap" moment. Give it a look-see. You may too.

Add restauranteur to the list...

It's official - the Blue Parrot, the beloved Tex-Mex joint in East Hampton, will reopen in May after being dark for two years. Ronald Perelman, Jon Bon Jovi and art dealer Larry Gagosian, who all own houses in the area, bought the lease last week from Lee Bieler.

source

OK, so ya'll know the in-laws are in the Hamptons. In fact, it's East Hampton. In fact, they're about 2 miles from the Bongiovis' beach house. In FACT, we drive past it all the time to get to Georgica Beach....

Wonder if I can talk the in-laws to trying this place when it launches again. HA HA! My FIL is in the propane business and does a lot of work with the restaurants out in that area. Perhaps his company would be contracted for the Parrot? Wonder if he needs an apprentice? lol

Sweet, Sweaty Goodness...

My good friend, Big Apple Jovi sent me this picture as a pick-me-up this morning. She's reorganizing her collection, and she thought I should have this picture. I think she's right!

Damn, look at the way his head's thrown back...the sweat glistening on that tanned, gorgeous chest... makes a Goddess get all squishy just thinking about running my hands over it. sigh. And can I please take a nibble of that Adam's Apple? Please?

Rich, if you're looking to do a good deed, come to Chicky and Pete's on Wednesday, February 25th. Ask for Goddess. Mah girls and I guarantee you'll laugh your ass off and have a good time.

An Evening With David Bryan

I found one woman's account (her name is Karen) of the Seattle gathering with David Bryan. The full posting is on her blog, here, but I wanted to excerpt some of it for you:

About 10 mins before the event starts, David comes in to do a sound check with the piano. I was floored! He played a little bit of Memphis Lives in Me, sang/played a bit of Wanted and then went into In These Arms.
As he was playing, people were coming in to the theatre, and he was joking around with us. The he said that he felt funny doing this sound check in front of us all. When he finished, he got up and said, “OK, that was embarrassing.”
David talked about everything from his dad being a trumpet player to how he got started a 7 years old with Piano, and it just went from there. It really was a chronological story of his life. He talked about writing his first songs at 7 years old, how he met Jon, how Bon Jovi started, and on up to why SWW was the do or die album to the break in the 1990s and on up to Lost Highway. He was telling stories I have never heard or read in interviews. How the collaboration between Jon, Richie David and Tico works. What happens in the studio when they put together a CD. He was asked if when they pare down the demos to the final 10-12 songs for the CD if it is a democracy. I loved his answer. He said it was a “Communistic Democracy”. But then he went on to say that Jon really has a vision for each record, and as the lead singer, he has to believe in each song otherwise it really doesn’t work for him on stage. It totally made sense.
He talked about how he writes music. Sometimes it is a title that he starts with then puts the emotion he wants in it with riffs of music, then the words start to come and he fleshes it out. Other times it starts with a riff in his head. He was at the piano at this point demonstrating with some of the Bon Jovi songs, and talked about all the riffs and songs he has in his head and in his studio he has written over the years. He used “April” from Lunar Eclipse as an example of how he started with a riff he wrote as a child and then it became the song on his CD. He played the riff and then showed us how he went on to the song. It was WAY COOL! He showed how Jon and Richie started with Wanted and then Richie’s Riff at the beginning started to flesh it out then how he came in and gave it the more western feel… Same thing with the emotion of Livin’ On a Prayer.

David posed for a picture with Karen's kids, and encouraged them (both of them are budding musicians) to keep with it and practice daily.

Karen also got to meet David when Memphis was playing in Seattle, and there's an accounting of that as well on her site.

It sounds like it was a great time, and that he was friendly and approachable, and very, very sweet. I hope that when his shows come to Boston, he does the same sort of thing.

New story added to The Directory

(Yes, I think of it in capital letters, tyvm)

Under The Influence
By SoulGirl

The story of Colby and Jon, set in the Destination Anywhere Era when Jon is in London to film the movie The Leading Man.

SoulGirl (along with some of my other writer friends) participated in NaNoWriMo this past November. This is the novel she wrote last November.

(If you don't know what NaNoWriMo is, it's National Novel Writing Month. That's where writers, aspiring or otherwise, have 30 days to write a 50,000 word novel. It's an exercise in getting your ideas down on paper. No editing, no fretting over this phrase or that...what they say on the site is that December is for editing; November is for writing.)
